CHARLESTON -- Effingham claimed junior high boys basketball victories over Charleston Thursday evening.

The Mustangs picked up the seventh-grade contest, 45-31. Charleston held a 13-11 opening quarter lead but the Mustangs came back to tie the score at hafltime 21-21. EJHS then had a 14-2 third quarter run.

Bushur tallied 14 while Hayes added 10 as the Mustangs improved to 2-1 on the season.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham trailed Charleston after the opening quarter, 14-9 but came roaring back to take a 22-18 halftime lead and had a 17-9 third period run.

Flack tallied 25 to lead the Mustangs while Pals added 14.

At Effingham

Dieterich traveled to Effingham Sacred Heart and handed the Shamrocks two losses Thursday.

Dieterich stepped out to a 26-14 hafltime lead in seventh-grade action and went on for a 45-20 win. B. Niemerg led the way in scoring with 21 points.

Sacred Heart was led by Warren with 10, all in the second quarter.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich led by one after the opening quarter but held a 31-22 halftime lead and a 47-30 lead going into the final quarter. Dieterich finished with a 55-32 victory.

Westendorf tallied 31 for the winners, with a 10-point second period.

Sacred Heart was led by Wallace with 11 and Sparks with 10.

At Martinsville

Jasper County tallied two victories over Martinsville in action Thursday.

Jasper County ran off to a 13-0 opening quarter lead in the seventh-grade contest and went on for a 35-15 win.

Drake Wolf and Caleb Flasch tallied 10 points each for the winners who improved to 1-1.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County was a 37-30 winner. Martinsville led 20-11 hafltime lead but Jasper County came out after halftime with a 16-2 third period run.

Wade Wickham led the way with 12 points as Jasper County improved to 2-0.

At Altamont

Sigel St. Michael picked up two victories over host Atlamont Thursday.

The Sharpshooters claimed the seventh-grade game, 20-17. Altamont held a 10-4 first half lead but St. Michael pulled ahead with an 11-2 third period.

Worman scored eight and Mayer seven for the winners.

Altamont was led by Veteto with 10.

In eighth-grade action, St. Michael tallied a 55-10 victory.

The Sharpshooters held a 17-0 opening quarter lead and led 37-3 at halftime.

Hatton scored 14 for the winners while B. Fearday chipped in with 12.

Altamont was led by Schlanser, Shafer and Gillespie with five points each.

At Neoga

North Clay (Louisville) was a winner in both contests Thursday.

North Clay captured the seventh-grade game, 37-7. North Clay held a 25-5 halftime lead.

Scroggins and Compton tallied 10 points each for the winners. Colton Beabout led Neoga with four.

In the eighth-grade contest, North Clay  led 17-11 at halftime then had a 37-16 second half run for the 54-27 win.

Zimdars led North Clay with 22 points. Neoga was led by Brock Cardinal with 11 points.

At Windsor

South Central picked up two wins over Windsor in action Thursday.

South Central edged Windsor, 22-20 in the seventh-grade contest. South Central led 14-5 at halftime but Windsor pulled within 19-15 going into the final quarter and had a 5-3 run only to fall short.

South Centarl was led by Trevor Sidwell with 15 points. Windsor was led by Ryker McDaniel with 12.

In eighth-grade action, South Central jumped out to a 16-3 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 58-22 win.

Jalen Smith led South Central with 12 points while Brody Markley added nine.

Windsor was led by Elijah Robinson with 14.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's seventh and eighth-grade boys basketball teams picked up wins over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

CHBC claimed the seventh-grade contest, 23-16 to improve to 1-1 on the season.

CHBC had a 6-2 opening half lead and outscored SEB 17-14 in the second half. Logan Dodge led the way for the winners with seven points.

SEB was led by Powell with eight.

In eighth-grade action, CHBC claimed a 48-18 win. CHBC led 26-11 at halftime.

AJ Radloff led the winners with 14 points. CHBC improved to 1-1.

SEB was led by Hoopingarner with 12.
