St. Anthony Boys Win Twice, Area Weekend Roundup

WINDSOR -- Effingham St. Anthony claimed a National Trail Conference win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in high school boys basketball Friday, 59-24.

The Bulldogs held a 30-13 halftime lead as Jaccob Dust tallied 11 first half points. St. Anthony had a 16-6 third quarter run.

Dust finished as the lone Bulldog player in double figures with 18. Kaden Fearday chipped in with nine.

The Hatchets were led by Gavan Wernsing with 10.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity game 60-20 and a freshman/sophomore contest, 34-24.

In a Saturday contest, the Bulldogs downed Charleston, 65-43.

St. Anthony moved ahead 36-18 at halftime and didn't look back.

Dust led the Bulldogs with 24 points while Fearday chipped in with 13 and Jack Hoene 10.

Charleston won the junior varsity contest, 51-44.

St. Elmo/Brownstown leaped out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead and went on to pound Mulberry Grove, 73-44.

The Eagles had five players finish in double figures in even scoring. Bryton Pruett led the way with 14 points while Jace McWhorter tallied 13, Andy Goldsborough 12, Jacob Baron 11 and Gavyn Smith 10. Smith pulled down 12 rebounds while Goldsborough had 11. Smith led in assists with six. McWhorter led in steals with three. Baron had two blocked shots.

At St. Elmo

South Central came calling and picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday, 71-39.

The Cougars held a 36-17 halftime lead. Keenin Willshire tallied 22 points for the winners while Hunter Brandt added 20.

South Central improved to 4-1 in the conference, 11-7 overall.

CHBC was led by Jadon Robertson with 15 and Daniel Lucas with 12.

South Central won the junior varsity contest 59-30 and a freshman/sophomore game 36-19.

Altamont put together 80 points to pound Patoka 80-32 in action Friday evening.

The Indians rushed out to a 26-7 opening quarter lead and held a 55-14 halftime tally.

Aiden Jahraus and Kaden Eirhart scored 21 points each while Noah Klimpel chipped in with 11.

Altamont also nabbed the junior varsity game, 63-34.

The Movin' Maroons went out to a 21- 18 opening quarter lead and led 32-20 at halftime. They pushed that to 51-27 going into the final period.

Derek Kuhl tallied 15 while Pete Britton added 14 and Cole Niebrugge 12.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by Luke Fleener with 19, Ian Bailey with 16, Ethan Bible with 11 and Tyson Jones with 11.

North Clay held a 46-21 halftime lead.

The Cardinals also nabbed the junior varsity game, 58-15.

Dieterich tallied a 54-45 National Trail Conference win over South Central in a Saturday game.

The Cougars edged out to a 16-15 opening quarter lead but Dieterich came back to take a 31-23 halftime tally. That was the game-winning quarter as the two teams played almost identical in the second half with the Maroons having a slight 23-22 margin.

Cole Niebrugge scored 21 and Bryce Budde 13 for the winners.

South Central was led by Keenin Willshire with 16. The Cougars dropped to 4-2 in the conference, 11-8 overall.
