COWDEN -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won the championship of its own freshman/sophomore girls basketball tournament Saturday.

In opening round play, CHBC downed Central A&M 57-23 while Effingham won over Pana 48-18. Robinson edged Ramsey 39-38. Teutopolis then claimed a 41-28 victory over Mattoon.

In winner bracket action, CHBC won over Effingham 38-23 while T-town downed Robinson 40-15. In the consolation bracket, Pana defeated Central A&M 55-26 and Mattoon won over Ramsey 67-33.

The consolation championship went to Mattoon over Pana 43-25. Ramsey won the seventh place game over Central A&M 39-23.

Efifngham was a 41-23 winner over Robinson for third place. The Hearts took a 20-15 halftime lead then had a 16-6 third quarter run.

Mapes led the Hearts with 10 points.

In the championship game, CHBC downed Teutopolis 58-35.

The Bobcats took a 28-18 halftime lead then had a 30-17 second half. Gracie Heckert led the winners with 21 points while Lani Morrison added 15.

T-town was led by Kremer with 11 and Flach with 10.
