Neoga, WSS, Newton Claim Girls Basketball Wins

NEOGA -- Olivia Titus and Kelsey Partlow led Neoga to a 51-29 victory over Cumberland in girls non-conference high school basketball action Saturday.

 

The Indians edged out to an 8-7 opening quarter lead then broke the game open with a 22-5 second period. Titus connected on six field goals, including three trifectas, and hit two free throws for 18 points. Kelsey Partlow contributed 13 while Kylee Phillips and Avery Fearday scored eight each.

Neoga improved to 10-10 on the season and will travel to Sullivan Thursday.

Cumberland was led by Zoe Mitchell with seven and Abigail Becker with six.

At Neoga

At Shelbyville

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 14-13 first quarter lead and finished out with a 67-65 double overtime win over Shelbyville in a non-conference contest Saturday.

Shelbyville held a 25-24 halftime and a 38-34 lead going into the final period. The Hatchets came back with a 23-19 run to tie the score at 57-57. In the first overtime, both teams tallied five points. WSS then pulled out the win in the second overtime.

Mikala Nichols led the Hatchets with 27 points while Hannah Hayes chipped in with 13. Chloe Dasenbrock and Natalie Hayes were on the verge of double figures with nine each.

Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 7-8 on the season and will return to action Thursday, traveling to Okaw Valley.

Newton pounded North Clay (Louisville), 43-13 in the first day of the North Clay Shootout Friday.

The Eagles edged out to a 10-6 opening quarter lead and led 26-10 at halftime. Newton held North Clay to only three second half points while putting together 17.

Morgan White led eight players in scoring with 13 points while Whitney Zumbahlen added nine.

North Clay was led by Allen with seven.
