Effingham St. Anthony claimed two wins over Taylorville in junior high boys basketball Thursday.

 

The Bullpups claimed the seventh-grade contest, 42-31. The Bullpups edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead and led 15-14 at halftime.

Taylorville came back with an 11-10 third period to tie the score at 25-25 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony then got untracked with a 17-6 run for the victory.

Ryan Schmidt tallied 10 for the Bullpups while Samuel Link and JC Trupiano scored eight each.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony was a 41-10 winner. The Bullpups took a 14-4 opening quarter lead and led 23-6 at halftime.

B. Adams led St. Anthony with 10 points while C. Westendorf added eight.

At Casey

Teutopolis downed Casey-Westfield in both junior high basketball contests Thursday.

The seventh-graders edged C-W, 28-25. Casey-Westfield opened up a 10-4 first period lead but the Shoes came back with a 12-9 second period to trail just 19-16 at halftime. Casey-Westfield still led 23-19 going into the final period. T-town then had a 9-2 final quarter to pull out the win.

Luke Niemerg scored 16 for the Shoes.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town took an early lead and never looked back in a 61-32 win.

Joey Niebrugge scored 13 while Eli Hanson scored 12 for the Shoes.

At Newton

Jasper County fell to Lawrenceville in both seventh and eighth grade games Thursday.

Lawrenceville edged Jasper County 38-35 in seventh-grade action. Lawrenceville broke a 6-6 opening quarter tie with a 12-4 second period.

Anthony Montanez led Jasper County with 12 points while Wade Wickham added 10. The seventh-graders drop to 3-9.

In eighth-grade action, Lawrenceville stepped out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead and went on for a 47-25 victory.

Isaac Flowers led Jasper County (6-6) with 12 points.
