Hearts Fall at Lincoln; Other High School Basketball Scores 12-13-19

The Effingham Hearts fell behind by 10, took a second quarter, but eventually lost 56-39 at Lincoln in Apollo Conference boys basketball Friday night.

Lincoln controlled the tempo throughout the first quarter and a last second three-pointer left the Hearts trailing 15-5 after one quarter. Lincoln got the ball to start the period but missed a shot. Effingham grabbed the rebound and also grabbed the momentum, ripping off 11 straight points to take a 16-15 lead. The teams exchanged leads and the Hearts outpointed the Railers in the quarter, but Effingham still trailed 25-22 at halftime.

Lincoln regained the momentum in the second half, outscoring the Hearts 14-7 to lead after three quarters, 39-29, and posted a 17-10 edge in the final period to win by 17.

Effingham junior Parker Wolfe led all scorers with 23 points. Also for the Hearts: Nate Thompson 6, Drew Thompson 5, and Jacob Stoneburner 5.

Four players scored in double figures for the Lincoln squad, now 7-0 on the season. Dylan Singleton led with 16 points, Will Ewald scored 14, Kaden Froebe 12, and Landon Hullinger 10. Kameron Whiteman finished with 4 points.

The Hearts are now 5-2 on the season, 1-1 in the Apollo.

Lincoln won the JV game 41-27. For Effingham: Brayden Pals 7, Jackson Lee 5, Volpi 5, Jakob Logan 3, Max Woelfer 3, Garrott Wolfe 2, Dalton Fox 2.

St. Anthony 74, St. Elmo/Brownstown 39 (Logan Antrim the Bulldogs with 21 points; Jack Hoene scored 18 points, and Jaccob Dust added 14 points; Smith and McWhorter each scored 8 points to pace St. Elmo/Brownstown; St. Anthony won the JV game 51-25; St. Anthony varsity now 8-0 on the season; SEB is 4-5 this season)
