CHBC, T-town, Neoga, Newton Nab Girls Basketball Wins

COWDEN -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City played host to Effingham St. Anthony in girls National Trail Conference basketball action Thursday and remained unbeaten on the season.

The Bobcats edged out to a 17-13 opening quarter lead but the Bulldogs came back to pull within 26-23 at halftime. CHBC then had back-to-back 18-12 quarters for the 62-47 victory.

Four players scored in double figures for the Bobcats. Jaelyn Robertson connected on 11 field goals for 22 points while Carsen Burks hit four field goals and was four of seven at the line for 13. Gracie Heckert and Madison Cherry chipped in with 10 each. Lauren Wojcik led in rebounds with 14. Lani Morrison had five assists while Heckert had four.

St. Anthony was led by Riley Guy with 29 and Lucy Fearday with 13. Guy connected on 11 field goals that included one three-pointer and was six of 10 at the line.

CHBC improved to 2-0 in the NTC, 9-0 overall. A big game will be looming next week as CHBC travels to Altamont (3-0, 9-0), also unbeaten on the season and in the NTC. That game will take place Thursday. Before that, Altamont will travel to North Clay (Louisville) Monday while CHBC will play host to Ramsey Monday.

At St. Joseph

Teutopolis took the early lead and never looked back in a 48-31 victory Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes were led by three players in double digits. Roepke led the way with 13 points while Mette chipped in with 12 and L. Niebrugge added 10. Niemerg led in assists with four. Mette pulled down nine rebounds while Roepke had five. Niemerg led in steals with six.

Neoga put together 73 points in downing Palestine/Hutsonville, 73-34 Thursday evening.

The Indians held a 42-21 lead at halftime then had a 24-10 third period. Three players hit double digits. Titus led the way with 23 points while Ramert and Phillips tallied 16 each. Titus knocked in four three-pointers. Ramert had nine rebounds while Partlow finished with five steals.

Neoga improved to 7-5 on the season.

The Indians also claimed the junior varsity game, 20-10.

Newton held a one point lead at halftime then had a 26-14 second half for a 47-34 win over Robinson Thursday.

The Eagles had two players finish in double figures. Brooke Jansen tallied 14 points and Allison Harris 11. Harris pulled down seven rebounds and had five assists and three steals. Whitney Zumbahlen also had three steals.

Newton improved to 6-3 on the season and will head to Mount Carmel Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. contest.

The Eagles also captured the junior varsity game, 40-35. Einhorn led the winners with 14 points.

At Ramsey

Ramsey tallied a 72-68 victory over South Central in Thursday competition.

Ramsey edged out to a 17-16 opening quarter lead but the Cougars moved ahead 37-30 at halftime. Ramsey came back with a 21-10 third period and held on for the win.

Leading South Central were Laney Webster with 28 points and Brooklyn Garrett with 22. The Cougars fall to 3-4 on the season and will be back in action Monday at  Woodlawn.

At Martinsville

Martinsville edged Dieterich, 39-36 in a non-conference contest Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons edged ahead 14-12 in the opening quarter and led 23-19 at halftime. Martinsville then had a 14-4 third quarter run to lead 33-27 going into the final period. Dieterich mounted a comeback with a 9-6 run but fell short.

Dieterich was led by Brooke Locey with nine.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond tallied a 51-32 victory over Cumberland Thursday evening.

The two teams were tied at 10-10 after the first quarter. ALAH moved ahead 18-15 a halftime then had a 33-17 second half.
