North Clay, Sigel St. Michael Headed to State

North Clay (Louisville) and Sigel St. Michael are both headed to eighth-grade girls state basketball tournaments after winning sectional championships Wednesday evening.

 

Class 8-1A Chrisman Scottland Sectional

Sigel St. Michael handed Hume Shiloh a loss in the Chrisman Scottland Sectional.

The Sharpshooters won handily, 42-30 and improved to 21-3 on the season.

St. Michael will head to the Class 8-1A State Tournament at Clinton Junior High School Saturday to play in the opening game against Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell (26-0) at 10 a.m.

The winner will play at 5 p.m. while the loser exits the tourney field.

 

Class 8-2A St. Anthony Sectional

North Clay (Louisville) won the championship of the St. Anthony Sectional by downing Stewardson-Strasburg, 38-29 Wednesday.

North Clay stepped out to an 11-4 opening quarter lead but Stew-Stras came back to hold the leaders scoreless in the second period to move ahead 12-11.

North Clay got back on track with a 13-6 third period and finished out strong.

Tappendorf led North Clay with 15 points while Ballard added 14. The squad improves to 13-7.

Stew-Stras was led by Kinkelaar with 15. The Stars finish the season with a 17-6 record.

North Clay now moves into the Class 2A State Tournament Saturday at Havana High School against Peoria St. Vincent de Paul (23-4) at 1 p.m. The winner advances to a 5 p.m. game while the loser exits the tourney.

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Sectional

Robinson Nuttall edged Tolono Unity to win the Teutopolis Sectional, 22-21.

Robinson Nuttall advances to the 8-3A State Tournament with a 22-1 record. Tolono Unity ended the season at 17-6.
