Area Teams Competing in Girls Christmas Tournaments

Area girls basketball teams will be heading to Christmas tournaments all around the area from Thursday, December 26 to Monday, December 30.

Effingham and Teutopolis will be competing in the Charleston Holiday Tournament scheduled for Friday, Dec. 27, Saturday, Dec. 28 and Monday, Dec. 30.

Both teams are in the Red Pool along with Charleston and Cairo. Members of the Gold Pool are Danville, Paris, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin and Tri-County.

Effingham and T-town will meet right off on Friday at noon. The Wooden Shoes will then face Cairo at 6 p.m. followed by the Hearts against Charleston at 7:30.

In Saturday action, T-town faces Charleston at noon followed by Effingham against Cairo at 1:30. How well the two squads do will then dictate when they will play Saturday afternoon or evening and in the finals Monday.

Friday, December 27

Game 1 – Tri-County vs. Danville, 9 a.m.

Game 2 – Paris vs. Sacred Heart, 10:30 a.m.

Game 3 – Teutopolis vs. Effingham, noon

Game 19 – Loser Game 15 vs. Loser Game 16, 1 p.m. (third place)

Game 20 – Winner Game 15 vs. Winner Game 16, 2:30 p.m. (championship)

 

Mattoon Holiday Tournament

In the 41st Annual Mattoon Holiday Tournament, Effingham St. Anthony and Altamont will be competing. The two squads are in Pool B along with Galesburg and Olney. In Pool A are Mattoon, Decatur St. Teresa, Vandalia and Mahomet-Seymour.

The tourney begins Thursday, Dec. 26 and ends Saturday, Dec. 28.

St. Anthony will meet Olney Thursday at 8:30 a.m. while Altamont plays an afternoon game against Galesburg at 1 p.m. The two teams then meet at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the day.

On Friday, St. Anthony takes on Galesburg at 10 a.m. and Altamont follows against Olney at 11:30. The rest of that day's games will be decided by how the teams place in their respective pools. Saturday's games will be the finals beginning at noon.

Mattoon Holiday Tournament

Game 2 – Mahomet-Seymour vs. Decatur St. Teresa, 10 a.m.

Game 3 – Mattoon vs. Vandalia, 11:30 a.m.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights Classic

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Cumberland will be competing in this event beginning Thursday, Dec. 26.

WSS is in Pool A along with Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, Chrisman and Mount Zion. Cumberland is in Pool B with Flanagan, Shelbyville and Sullivan.

In Thursday play, Cumberland meets Sullivan at 5 p.m. in the West Gym while WSS takes on ALAH, also at 5 in the East Gym.

Friday's action finds Cumberland against Shelbyville in the East Gym at 1 p.m. and Flanagan at 4 also in the East Gym. WSS meets Chrisman at 2:30 in the East Gym and Mount Zion at 5:30 in the West Gym.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday.

ALAH Knights Classic Tournament

Thursday, Dec.26

Monticello Holiday Tournament

Only one area team will take part in the Monticello Holiday Tournament and that team is Neoga.

Neoga is in the Gold Pool along with Ridgeview, Paxton-Buckley-Loda and Clinton. In the Purple Pool are Monticello, GCMS, Tuscola and Stark County.

The tourney opens Thursday, Dec. 26 and will end Saturday, Dec. 28.

Neoga will meet Paxton-Buckley-Loda at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Indians face Ridgteview at 11:30 a.m. Friday and Clinton at 7:30 p.m.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday.
