SIGEL -- Sigel St. Michael and Dieterich will be playing for the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament championship after picking up victories Tuesday evening.

The Sharpshooters opened with a 38-17 win over North Clay (Louisville).

In the second contest, Dieterich downed South Central, 31-24.

St. Michael faces Dieterich at 8 p.m. Thursday for the title.

North Clay takes on South Central for third place at 6:45 p.m. In the consolation championship at 5:30, Sacred Heart meets Stewardson-Strasburg.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up two wins over Olney in junior high boys basketball competition Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade encounter, 42-17. Olney took an 8-4 opening quarter lead but T-town came back with a 13-5 second period to lead 17-13 at halftime. The Shoes kept the momentum after halftime with a 12-2 third quarter and a 13-2 final period.

Henry Thompson tallied 11 for the Shoes while Carter Hoene chipped in with nine.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town was a 44-31 winner. The Shoes held a 17-9 halftime lead then had a 12-7 third quarter.

Ethan R. Thoele scored 12 for the winners whie Evan Waldhoff and Joey Niebrugge tallied eight each.
