Effingham High School easily handled Olney in a non-conference boys basketball contest Tuesday evening, 58-39.

The Hearts slowly edged out to an 11-8 opening quarter lead as Drew Thompson knocked in a three-pointer and two regular baskets.

Thompson continued his hot scoring with three straight trifectas in the second period and a regular basket for 11 points while Parker Wolfe got on track with a three-pointer and scored six points. The Hearts moved ahead with a 21-6 second period to lead 32-14 at halftime.

Thompson finished with 27 points on nine of 14 from the field including four of five from three-point range. Also in double figures were Wolfe with 12 and Nate Thompson with 11. N. Thompson led in rebounds with six while Wolfe had six assists.

The Hearts are now 5-1 on the season while Olney dropped to 3-3.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony had 12 players score in the game and handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 96-37 National Trail Conference loss Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs had seven players hit baskets in the opening quarter's 31-9 run. Logan Antrim scored seven and Aaron Webb six in that first period. The lead went to 48-20 at halftime as Jaccob Dust tallied seven.

St. Anthony finished out with a 33-12 third period and a 15-5 final quarter. Four players scored in double figures as Antrim and Dust led the way with 17 each, Webb added 12 and Kennan Walsh 10.

CHBC was led by Taylor and Lucas with 13 points each.

The Bulldogs won the junior varsity contest, 61-17. Walsh scored 16 while Ty Wiedman added 10 for the Bulldogs. Robertson led CHBC with 10.
