Dieterich Second at C'land Tournament

TOLEDO -- Cumberland High School finished second at its own boys Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament Saturday.

During Friday action, in the consolation bracket, Newton bounced Oblong, 70-24 while Vandalia won over Cumberland, 65-54. In the winner bracket, Charleston downed Casey-Westfield, 58-32 and Dieterich edged Okaw Valley, 54-50 in overtime.

In Saturday's games, Newton downed Vandalia, 63-40 to win the consolation championship. The Eagles were led by Kyle Shafer with 17 and J. Tharp with 16.

Casey-Westfield beat Okaw Valley, 59-45 for third place.

In the championship contest, Charleston won over Dieterich, 67-59. 

The Movn' Maroons took an 18-15 opening quarter lead on Charleston. But the Trojans had a 24-13 second period to lead 39-31 at halftime. Charleston held a three-point lead going into the final quarter and had a 17-12 final period run.

Dieterich was led by Derek Kuhl with 19 points and Cole Niebrugge with 13. Both made the All-Tournament Team.

Others on the All-Tournament Team were Evan Schafer (Newton), Ross Hemmen (Cumberland), Garrett Austin (Vandalia), Eli Hagerman (Okaw Valley), Cameron Sharp (Okaw Valley), Noah Livingston (Casey-Westfield) Isaac Miller (Charleston) and Caleb Hurst (Charleston) who was named Most Valuable Player.
