Effingham St. Anthony hosted a Class 7-2A Girls Basketball Regional Saturday and picked up a 29-15 win over South Central.

The Bullpups took an 8-2 opening quarter lead as four players scored a basket each. St. A then pushed ahead 18-4 at halftime and finished out strong.

A. Rios, A. Nuxoll and K.Kabbes tallied six points each for the winners.

South Central was led by Wilkins with seven points.

In the opening contest, Neoga handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 23-15 loss.

Neoga will meet Stewardson-Strasburg today at 6 p.m. followed by St. Anthony taking on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:15. The winners then advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Two games were contested in the T-town Regional Saturday.

Teutopolis opened with a 29-7 win over Cumberland. The Wooden Shoes held a 9-2 halftime lead then had a 12-1 third period surge.

Chloe Probst was the lone player in double figures for the Shoes with 10.

In the second contest, Jasper County won over Robinson Nuttall, 28-5. Jasper County held Robinson scoreless in the first half while taking a 13-0 lead and pushed that to 24-1 in the third quarter.

O'Dell led Jasper County with seven points.

T-town advances to face Lawrenceville Parkview at 6 p.m. today while Altamont meets Jasper County at 7:15. The winners advance to the Tuesday championship at 6 p.m.

Class 7-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Three games were contested Saturday in the Edwards County Regional.

Oblong edged Red Hill (Bridgeport), 23-20 while Edwards County blasted Palestine, 67-10. Casey-Westfield took a two-point win over North Clay (Louisville), 17-15.

In Tuesday games, Dieterich meets Oblong at 6 p.m. followed by Edwards County against Casey-Westfield at 8. The championship is sheduled Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-4A Charelston Regional

Fifrth-seeded Mount Zion pounded Champaign Franklin, 52-29 Saturday in the opener of the Charleston Regional.

In the second contest, Charleston defeated Stephen Decatur, 37-5.

Effingham, seeded No. 1, now faces Mount Zion today at 4:30 p.m. followed by Mattoon against Charleston at 6. The winners meet  Tuesday evening for the championship at 6.

 

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed two victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in action Friday.

In the seventh-grade game, Stew-Stras was a 28-12 winner. Stew-Stras held CHBC scoreless in the first quarter while taking a 10-0 lead.

VonBehrens tallied 16 for the winners. Stew-Stras is 7-2 in the National Trail Conference, 13-7 overall.

CHBC was led by Macee Rodman with seven. CHBC drops to 5-4 in the NTC, 9-10 overall.

In the eighth-grade game, Stew-Stras won, 31-16. Stew-Stras held a 15-13 halftime lead and led 19-15 going into the final quarter. Stew-Stras then broke loose with a 12-1 run.

Kinkelaar tallied nine while Wernsing and Vonderheide had eight each. Stew-Stras improves to 7-2 in the conference, 15-5 overall.
