CHARLESTON -- Effingham split victories with Charleston in junior high boys basketball competition Thursday.

The Mustangs took a 20-16 halftime lead in seventh-grade play and went on for a 48-33 win.

Flack scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds for Effingham while Belcher added 12 points and Pals 11. The win was the first for Effingham, now 1-4.

In eighth-grade competition, Charleston picked up a 36-25 victory.

Leading Effingham was Raddatz with nine points.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo split victories Thursday evening.

CHBC won the seventh-grade match, 42-19. CHBC edged out to a 21-10 opening half lead then had a 21-9 second half.

CHBC was led by Brummet with 13 points and Calame and Villar with eight each.

BSE was led by Wilhour with eight.

In eighth-grade action, Brownstown/St. Elmo was a 39-23 winner. Leading 18-10 at halftime, BSE had a 15-8 final period.

BSE was led by J. Maxey with 15 points and L. Schroeder with nine.

CHBC was led by Lorton with nine.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis downed  Cumberland twice in action Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade matchup, 43-12 with a 20-2 opening quarter run.

Luke Niemerg led in scoring with 11 points while Henry Thompson added eight.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town took a 23-2 opening quarter lead and went on for a 60-9 victory.

Tyler Pruemer tallied nine points for the winners. Stewart led Cumberland with five.

Sigel St. Michael played host to Stewardson-Strasburg and captured two victories Thursday.

St. Michael won the seventh-grade game, 42-24 with a 24-8 first half. B. Fearday tallied 10 while Hatton had nine for the Sharpshooters.

Stew-Stras was led by Gurgel with nine. The squad dropped to 5-2.

In eighth-grade play, St. Michael was a 51-22 winner behind three players in double figures. B. Fearday scored 13 while Niebrugge added 12 and Ruholl 11.

Stew-Stras was led by Manhart with eight. Stew-Stras dropped to 1-6.

North Clay (Louisville) edged host Windsor, 27-25 in seventh-grade action Thursday.

North Clay's L. Graves scored all six points in the opening quarter and all six in the second period for a 12-10 lead. Graves finished with 21 for the winners.

Windsor was led by Elijah Robinson with 12.

In eighth-grade action, it was Windsor's turn to pull out a close win, 32-31. North Clay held a 17-12 hafltime lead and led 24-19 going into the final quarter. Windsor came to life with a 13-7 run to edge North Clay.

Windsor was led by Bridges with 10 points and Hendrickson with nine.

North Clay was led by Hardiek with eight.
