EHS Takes Care Of Business In Boys Regional

OLNEY -- Effingham High School took care of business in opening round play of the Class 3A Olney Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening.

The Hearts ran off to a 23-5 opening quarter lead on Apollo Conference opponent Mount Zion. Landon Wolfe continued his scoring run, knocking in two free throws then tagging four baskets for 10 points. Meanwhile his brother Parker Wolfe, hit four baskets including a three-pointer for nine points.

The lead went to 43-22 at halftime. P. Wolfe nailed two trifectas while Drew Thompson got into the scoring with two baskets that included a three-pointer and two free throws for seven points.

The scoring calmed down in the third period as the Hearts had a 15-13 edge and 10 players got into the contest. The Hearts finished out with a 24-17 final period. Jacob Briggerman and P. Wolfe had six points each while L. Wolfe finished out with seven.

L. Wolfe tallied 29 points hitting 11 field goals that included two three-pointers and was five of eight at the line. P. Wolfe also scored in the 20s with 24 on 10 field goals, including four trifectas. The Hearts hit 54 percent for the game on 31 of 52. They also knocked in 12 of 17 free throws.

L. Wolfe finished with seven rebounds and five assists. Nate Thompson pulled down seven rebounds.

Leading Mount Zion were Jayse Booker with 14 and Drew London with 12.

In the opening game, Charleston handed Paris a 75-65 loss. The Trojans move into a contest tonight against Urbana at 7 p.m.

The Hearts improve to 18-12 on the season and will now face Olney at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The winners of tonight's and Wednesday's games advance to the championship scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
