Altamont, SEB, South Central, Neoga Reach Regional Title Games

ST. ELMO -- Altamont and St. Elmo/Brownstown will square off for the championship of the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Boys Basketball Regional after picking up victories Wednesday evening.

Top-seeded Altamont handed Cisne a 61-35 loss in the first game Wednesday. The Indians ran off to a 14-7 opening quarter lead as Alek Biggs and Aidan Jahraus scored seven points each.

Cisne came back with a 7-5 second period to trail 19-14 at halftime. But the Indians regrouped in the third quarter with a 24-9 run. Biggs scored seven more while Noah Teasley led the way with eight and Tony Klitzing added seven.

Biggs finished out strong in the final quarter with 10 points to end as the Indians leader with 26. Jahraus added 14 and Teasley finished with 10.

Cisne was led by Milner with nine.

In the second contest, the host squad captured a 53-49 win over Dieterich.

The game was close all the way as Dieterich took a 17-14 opening quarter lead behind Derek Kuhl's six points and Matthew Hunzinger's five.

SEB came back in the second period to tie the score at 23-23 at halftime. Then it was a tie score at the end of the third quarter, 37-37.

The Eagles then took flight with a 16-12 final period to pull out the victory. Nate Philpot tallied six in the quarter. Tyler Elmore did all he could for Dieterich in the final period, knocking in two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Andy Goldsborough with 18 and Philpot with 12. The Eagles improve to 21-12.

Dieterich was led by Evan Bohnhoff with 15 and Cole Niebrugge with 14.

Altamont and Dieterich will square off for the regional championship Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Odin Regional

South Central moved into the championship game with a 36-32 win over North Clay (Louisville) Wednesday evening.

The Cougars edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead and led 17-15 at halftime. The Cougars continued their run with a 12-9 third period. The Cardinals came back with an 8-7 final period edge but fell short.

Logan Lotz led South Central with 13 points. The Cougars improve to 19-12 on the season.

North Clay was led by Kaden Turner with 12.

In the second contest, Odin downed Mulberry Grove, 53-50.

Odin now meets South Central at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Neoga Regional

Neoga High School moved into the championship game of its own regional with a 40-25 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Wednesday evening.

Neoga took a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 18-14 at halftime. The Indians then held CHBC scoreless in the third period while moving ahead 28-14 and finishing out with a 12-11 final period.

Reece Johnson led Neoga with 15 points. The Indians improve to 15-13 on the season and will now take on Nokomis at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

CHBC was led by Dylan Webster with 10 points.

Class 1A Edinburg Regional

Moweaqua Central A&M and Buffalo Tri-City moved into the championship of this regional Wednesday evneing.

Moweaqua Central A&M downed Bethany Okaw Valley 73-40.

Buffalo Tri-City was a 50-42 winner over host Edinburg.

Moweaqua Central A&M and Buffalo Tri-City will square off at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship. The winner then advances to the Altamont Sectional next week to face either South Central or Odin.
