The St. Anthony Bulldogs won their 20th game of the season Wednesday night, defeating the Cumberland Pirates 48-29. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. The win sets up a 2A Regional championship game Friday night against arch-rival Teutopolis. The Wooden Shoes defeated Robinson Tuesday night 69-41.

Both St. Anthony and Cumberland were slow out of the gate, combining for seven baskets in the first quarter as St. Anthony took a 9-6 lead. A 9-7 second quarter left St. Anthony in front 18-13 at halftime.

The second half was a different story, though, as St. Anthony made 15 of 27 shots and outscored the Pirates in the half 30-16 to post the 19-point win.

St. Anthony finished 23 of 54 for 43% including just one of nine on threes. The Bulldogs only shot two foul shots and made one of them. St. Anthony handled the ball well, turning it over just nine times while grabbing 31 rebounds.

Cumberland shot 31% from the field, 11 of 35 including 1 of 10 threes. The Pirates went six of eight from the free throw line, but turned the ball over 17 times and pulled down 23 rebounds.

The Bulldogs had no scorers in double figures, but had players score in the contest. Logan Antrim led the way with nine points, Luke Ludwig and Jaccob Dust each scored eight, Kaden Fearday, Jack Hoene and Bryson Wall each scored six, Alex Brandenburger hit a three-pointer and Aaron Webb scored two points.

Zach Wolke scored 15 points to lead Cumberland. Brennyn Cutts added seven, Wyatt Napier four and Myles Gerhardt three.

St. Anthony picked up its 20th win against 10 losses, while Cumberland ends its season at 18-13. The Pirates say goodbye to seniors Zach Wolke, Myles Gerhardt, Connor Butler, Alex Talley, Brice LaBaume and Rylan Smith.

The Bulldogs and Wooden Shoes will square off Friday at 7pm. The winner moves on to the 2A Sectional Wednesday night at Vandalia.
