T-town, SEB, Dieterich Advance in Boys Regionals

Teutopolis High School moved into the championship game of the Class 2A Effingham St. Anthony Boys Basketball Regional with a victory Tuesday evening at the Enlow Center.

The Wooden Shoes got off to a solid start with a 17-3 run on Robinson in the opening quarter and never looked back in this victory.

T-town's Clint Weber and Dawson Smith provided the one-two scoring punch for the Shoes with 21 and 20 points respectively.

The Shoes advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m. against either Effingham St. Anthony or Cumberland. Those two teams play tonight at 7.

Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

St. Elmo/Brownstown and Dieterich advanced from the St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional Tuesday.

The Eagles opened the evening with a 78-27 pounding of Martinsville. SEB took an 18-5 opening quarter lead and led 42-16 at halftime.

Three players hit double figures for SEB. Jace McWhorter, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, led the way with 18 points while Jaxson Tish added 15 and Bryton Pruett 10. The Eagles knocked in 10 three-pointers led by J. Tish with five and McWhorter with three.

The Bluestreaks did not have a player finish in double figures.

In the second contest, Dieterich claimed a 56-37 win over Oblong.

The Movin' Maroons trailed Oblong 11-10 after the opening quarter and 23-22 at halftime. In the third period, Dieterich went on an 18-10 run to lead 40-33 going into the final period. Dieterich kept its momentum going with a 16-4 final period.

Collin Hartke, a 6-foot-2 junior, led the way with 16 points while Cole Niebrugge scored 12 and Matthew Hunzinger 10.

Dieterich will face St. Elmo/Brownstown at 7:30 p.m. today in the second game of the evening. In the opener, top-seeded Altamont takes on Cisne at 6. The winners of these two games square off for the regional championship Friday at 7 p.m.

 Class 1A Edinburg Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg saw its season come to a close with a 56-46 loss to Edinburg in the Class 1A Edinburg Regional Tuesday.

Edinburg edged out to a 15-14 opening quarter lead and moved that to 28-23 at halftime. Edinburg had a 9-8 third period and a 19-15 final quarter for the 10-point victory.

Adam Burton, a senior, led the Hatchets with 15 points while Beau Bennett was on the verge of double figures with nine. WSS ends the season with a 16-15 record.

In the second game, Buffalo Tri-City beat Niantic Sangamon Valley, 63-38.

The regional continues tonight as Moweaqua Central A&M faces Bethany Okaw Valley at 6 followed by host Edinburg against Buffalo Tri-City at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Odin Regional

Mulberry Grove and Odin captured wins at the Class 1A Odin Regional Tuesday evening.

Mulberry Grove handled Sandoval, 58-23 in the first game of the evening.

In the second contest, host Odin downed Patoka, 68-51.

In tonight's games, North Clay (Louisville) faces South Central as two National Trail Conference teams clash at 6 followed by Mulberry Grove against Odin at 7:30.

The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.

 

Class 1A Neoga Regional

Only one game was contested in the Class 1A Neoga Regional Tuesday.

Nokomis claimed a 53-33 victory over Arcola to advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m. against either Neoga or Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. Those two teams play tonight at 7.
