The St. Anthony Bulldogs defeated the Altamont Indians 52-40 Tuesday night in National Trail Conference boys basketball action. The game at Altamont was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The game was different than when the teams played on January 26 in the conference tournament championship game. St. Anthony won that game 68-50. The Bulldogs took a big lead, then Altamont came storming back to get within single digits of the lead before the Bulldogs regrouped and won by 18.

Tuesday's game was close for almost the entire contest. In fact, Altamont led 8-7 at the end of a low-scoring first quarter. St. Anthony led by just 19-17 at halftime and the Bulldogs were up just six after three quarters, 34-28. St. Anthony posted an 18-12 edge in the final quarter.

With St. Anthony starter Luke Ludwig dealing with a rolled ankle, Bryson Wall got the starting nod and had a great night. Wall led St. Anthony in scoring with 13 points on six of nine shooting and also grabbed six rebounds. Wall was also a help when Jaccob Dust got in early foul trouble.

Also in double figures for the Bulldogs was sophomore Logan Antrim with 12 points on five of 10 shooting and five rebounds. Another solid performer was Kaden Fearday who scored nine points and pulled down nine rebounds. Dust played the second half while avoiding further fouls and went four for four from the field for eight points. Ludwig scored six points, and Jack Hoene and Aaron Webb each scored two points.

Altamont was led by Alek Biggs, one of two Indians players in his Senior Night contest. Biggs finished with 20 points on six of 14 shooting. He scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Also for Altamont: five points each for Tony Klitzing and Noah Teasley, four for Denver Duckwitz, and three points each for Aidan Jahraus and Kaden Eirhart, who had to leave the game due to injury when he was fouled on a shot attempt. Klitzing led Altamont with five rebounds.

St. Anthony shot 51% from the field on 21 of 41 shooting including two of three on threes. The Bulldogs made 8 of 12 foul shots, turned the ball over 17 times and grabbed 27 rebounds.

Altamont made just 30% of its shots, 12 of 40 including 8 of 27 threes. The Indians made 8 of 13 at the line, committed 18 turnovers and pulled down 19 rebounds.

St. Anthony improved to 19-9 on the season and will host Casey-Westfield Friday night on Senior Night before heading into 2A Regional action at home next week. Altamont is now 18-11 and will wrap up the regular season at Windsor/Stew-Stras Friday night and then start 1A regional action at St. Elmo next week.
