MOUNT ZION -- Effngham claimed the championship of the Class 4-A Mount Zion Boys Basketball Regional Thursday.

The Mustangs handed Mount Zion a 40-26 loss. Mount Zion held a 16-15 halftime lead. Effingham then came out in the third quarter with a 16-6 run and that was the game.

Wolfe tallied 13 and Pontious nine for the Mustangs. Estrada led in steals with four. Westendorf pulled down 10 rebounds while Pontious had eight.

Effingham improved to 19-4 on the season and will take on the winner of the Taylorville Regional at 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 2 at its own regional.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Sigel St. Michael claimed the championship of its own regional with a 37-33 win over Newton St. Thomas Thursday.

St. Michael advances to the Stewardson-Strasburg Sectional Wednesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. against host Stewardson-Strasburg.

 

Class 8-3A Arthur Regional

Cumberland claimed the championship of the Arthur Regional by downing the host squad, 35-31 Thursday.

Cumberland advances to its own sectional Wednesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. and will face either Teutopolis or  Lawrenceville Parkview. Those two teams play tonight at 6 for the championship of the Parkview Regional.

 

Class 7-1A Marshall Sectional

Teutopolis captured the championship of the Class 7-3A Marshall Sectional Thursday.

T-town took a 48-27 win over Shelbyville Moulton. T-town held a 23-14 halftime lead and outscored Moulton 12-7 in the third period.

Tyler Pruemer led the way for the Shoes with 16 points while Eli Hanson had 11 and Mitch Koester added 10.

Teutopolis heads to the Class 7-3A State Tournament at Wenona Fieldcrest and will face the winner of the South Holland McKinley and Chicago Frances Xavier Warde game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
