Effingham St. Anthony captured its own Class 7-2A Boys Basketball Regional championship Wednesday evening.

The Bullpups claimed a 41-27 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown. The score was knotted at 13-13 after the opening quarter. St. Anthony edged ahead 23-22 at halftime with five baskets by three players. SEB kept close with two baskets and five free throws.

But St. Anthony came out after halftime and held SEB scoreless while pushing ahead 31-22. St. Anthony then had a 10-5 final quarter.

Two players scored in double figures for the Bullpups. Teddy Dietzen tallied 16 and Colin Westendorf 13.

SEB was led by Schaub with eight points.

St. Anthony advances to the North Clay (Louisville) Sectional Wednesday, January 30 against the winner of the Casey-Westfield Regional, either Dieterich or Paris Crestwood. Those two teams play tonight for the championship of the Casey-Westfield Regional.

 Class 7-1A Pana Sacred Heart Regional

Pana Sacred Heart and Ramsey were winners in action Wednesday at the Pana Sacred Heart Regional.

Pana Sacred Heart edged Findlay Okaw Valley, 32-20 in the first game of the evening.

In the second contest, Ramsey won over Stewardson-Strasburg, 30-22.

Ramsey took a 9-1 first quarter lead and led 16-7 at halftime and 27-16 going into the final quarter.

Benhoff led Ramsey with 12 points while Hayes added 10.

Stew-Stras was led by Manhart by 11 and Gracey with 10. Stew-Stras ends the season with an 8-14 record.

Pana Sacred Heart meets Ramsey Friday for the regional championship at 6:30 p.m.

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Newton St. Thomas captured the championship of the Sigel St. Michael Regional Wednesday.

St. Thomas handed host St. Michael a 30-24 loss.

St. Thomas advances to the Stewardson-Strasburg Sectional Wednesday, January 30 at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the Pana Sacred Heart Regional, either Pana Sacred Heart or Ramsey. Those two teams play Friday at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-3A Shelbyville Moulton Regional

Shelbyville Moulton won its own regional championship Wednesday.

Moulton downed Sullivan, 40-22. Moulton now advances to the Marshall Sectional Wednesday, January 30 at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the Teutopolis Regional, either T-town or Lawrenceville Parkview. Those two teams play tonight for the championship.

 

Class 7-4A Effingham Regional

Charleston and Stephen Decatur advanced to the title game with victories Wednesday.

Charleston edged Mount Zion, 45-42 while Stephen Decatur won over Mattoon, 30-25.

The two squads meet tonight at 6 for the regional championship. The winner then advances to the Springfield Grant Sectional Wednesday, January 30 at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of the Taylorville Regional. Rochester claimed a 51-47 victory over Springfield Lincoln Wednesday.

 

SIJHSAA Regional Tournament

Altamont Lutheran advanced to the championship of the regional at Iuka.

Altamont Lutheran trounced St. Peter Lutheran 69-25 in action Wednesday.

In the second contest, Patoka won over Iuka, 47-24.

Altamont Lutheran faces Patoka at 6 p.m. today for the championship.
