Effingham St. Anthony edged Mattoon, 25-23 in seventh-grade girls basketball competition Monday evening.

The Bullpups led 8-2 at halftime and 16-8 going into the final quarter when Mattoon mounted a comeback with a 15-9 run only to fall short.

St. Anthony was led by Geen with nine points while H. Niebrugge and S. Kibler added six each.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony claimed a 30-24 victory in overtime.

The Bullpups led 12-9 at halftime but the score was tied at 18-18 in the third period. The two teams scored six points each in the final period to send the contest into overtime. In the overtime period, St. Anthony held Mattoon scoreless while Fitzjarrald tallied two points and Fearday four.

Fearday finished with 16 to lead the Bullpups.

At Vandalia

Teutopolis tallied two victories over Vandalia in action on the Wooden Shoes' homecourt Monday evening.

T-town won the seventh-grade contest, 35-18. T-town held a 21-6 halftime lead.

Isabelle Zerrusen tallied 10 for the winners while TaNeal Einhorn added eight. T-town is now 20-2 on the season.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town was a 29-15 winner. Emily Konkel scored 12 for the winners.

The Wooden Shoes are now 20-2 on the season in eighth-grade play.

At Altamont

Altamont claimed two wins over visiting Okaw Valley in girls action Monday evening.

Altamont won the seventh-grade game, 47-21. Altamont leaped out to a 32-13 halftime lead and that was the game.

Peyton Osteen led the way with 14 points while Grace Nelson scored 13.

In the eighth-grade game, Altamont picked up a 40-21 victory. Altamont took a 10-point lead at halftime then had a 19-10 second half.

Kalliana Becker scored 13 for the winners.
