CASEY -- Effingham St. Anthony captured a seventh-grade boys basketball victory over Casey-Westfield, 42-36.

The Bullpups took a 17-10 opening quarter lead but Casey-Westfield came back to move ahead 24-23 at halftime. Casey-Westfield still held a one-point lead after the third quarter but the Bullpups rallied with a 13-6 run to pull out the victory.

Conner Roepke led the way for St. Anthony with 13 points while Teddy Dietzen chipped in with 12.

In eighth-grade play, the Bullpups fell to Casey-Westfield, 51-40.

Casey-Westfield took a 22-17 halftime lead and pushed that to 32-26 in the third period. St. Anthony was led by W. Hoene with 14 points.

At Mount Zion

Effingham Junior High School nabbed a 30-24 win over Mount Zion in eighth-grade play Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs took a 14-7 halftime lead and had a 12-8 third period run. Garrett Wolfe scored 11 for the winners who improve to 3-1 on the season.

In seventh-grade action, Mount Zion downed the Mustangs, 34-21. Mount Zion took a 16-11 halftime lead then had a 10-6 third period.

Leading Effingham was Lewis with 13 points. The Mustangs drop to 2-2 on the season.

EJHS will travel to Teutopolis Thursday for action at 6 p.m.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Flora Tuesday evening.

T-town downed Flora, 42-10 in seventh-grade action. The Wooden Shoes swept out to a 26-3 halftime lead. Mitch Koester and Joey Niebrugge scored six points each for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, T-town claimed a 39-24 victory. T-town held a 15-14 halftime lead and led by 26-24 going into the final quarter then had a 13-0 run.

Brendan Niebrugge and Logan Roepke scored 15 points each for the Shoes.

At Sigel

Altamont Lutheran claimed both victories over host Sigel St. Michael Tuesday evening.

The seventh-grade contest went to Altamont Lutheran, 37-32. ALIS held a 20-15 halftime lead. The Sharpshooters came back with a 7-6 third period but ALIS finished out with an 11-10 run.

Kaiden Miller led the winners with 11 points. St. Michael was led by Koester with 11.

In eighth-grade play, Altamont Lutheran was a 52-32 winner. ALIS took a 29-12 halftime lead and never looked back.

Logan Garrett scored 25 for Altamont Lutheran while on the other side of the court, Niebrugge scored 20, which included four three-pointers, for St. Michael.
