BEECHER CITY -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City moved into the championship game of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.

CHBC handed Altamont a 43-33 loss. CHBC led 19-15 at halftime then had a 16-7 third quarter run. Heckert led the way with 16 points while Wojcik added 13.

Altamont was led by Nelson with 12 and Tedrick with 10.

In consolation play, Sigel St. Michael downed Neoga, 35-23.

St. Michael trailed Neoga 12-10 at halftime then had a 10-3 third quarter and a 15-8 final period. Niebrugge tallied 18 for the winners.

Neoga was led by Richards with 13.

Tonight's games will feature North Clay (Louisville) against Brownstown/St. Elmo at 7:15 in winner bracket play and Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor facing South Central at 6 in consolation bracket action.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will take on the winner of the North Clay vs. BSE contest at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for the championship. Altamont will face the loser of that contest for third place at 10:15. The consolation championship will have St. Michael against the winner of the SSW vs. South Central game at 9 a.m. Saturday.

At Nokomis

Effingham St. Anthony and Nokomis split victories Thursday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 36-14. St. Anthony took a 13-8 opening quarter lead and led 18-10 at halftime and 29-12 going into the final quarter.

Geen tallied 10 while H. Niebrugge scored nine for the winners.

Nokomis claimed a 34-17 win over St. Anthony in the eighth-grade contest. Nokomis took a 10-5 opening quarter lead and had a 24-12 second half.

St. Anthony was led by Schwing, Faber and Fearday with four points each.
