The Effingham Lady Hearts knew at the start of this week what they had to do to capture the Apollo Conference girls basketball championship outright. They had to beat Charleston at Charleston and they had to beat Lincoln at Lincoln.

Mission accomplished.

Effingham defeated Lincoln 44-33 to capture the outright championship. The Lady Hearts finished the campaign with an 11-1 conference mark, the sole loss a one-point defeat at the hands of Lincoln at Effingham.

The Lady Hearts avenged that loss Thursday night after defeating Charleston on Monday night, 71-61, in overtime.

Effingham is now 26-2 on the season.

The Hearts trailed Lincoln 9-8 after the opening quarter but came roaring back with a 14-5 second period to lead 22-14 at halftime. In that run, Carsyn Fearday knocked down three three-pointers.

The scoring went back to almost nothing again in the third quarter as Lincoln  had a slight 6-5 edge. The Hearts then nailed their free throws in the final period for a 17-13 run and the final score.

Fearday finished with 19 points hitting five field goals, including those three trifectas and was six of six at the line while Miranda Fox and Abby Weis connected for nine each.
