WSS, T-town Pick Up Weekend Boys Wins

STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg split boys high school basketball victories Friday and Saturday.

In Friday action, WSS fell to Mulberry Grove in overtime, 72-58.

WSS led 45-42 going into the final quarter and Mulberry Grove then tied the score at 55-55 sending the game into overtime.  Mulberry Grove then had a 17-3 overtime run.

Christian Kessler, a 6-foot-2 senior, led the way for WSS with 23 points while Jackson Miller chipped in with 11.

In the Saturday game, WSS took a 58-51 win over North Clay (Louisville) in National Trail Conference play.

North Clay held a 17-11 opening quarter lead but the Hatchets moved ahead 29-25 at halftime and had a 29-26 second half.

Isaac Kramer tallied 21 while Kessler added 19 in the win.

Windsor/Stew-Stras is now 3-3 in the conference, 10-12 overall.

North Clay was led by Quincy Aldrich with 11 and Kaden Turner with 10. The Cardinals drop to 2-4 in the conference, 9-15 overall.

At Benton

Teutopolis handed Herrin a 69-48 loss in the Benton Rich Herrin Classic Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes jumped out to a 16-9 opening quarter lead and led 23-19 at halftime and 42-35 going into the final quarter.

Five players hit double figures for the Shoes. Dawson Smith and Lee Hardiek scored 14 each while Ian Addis had 12 and Clint Weber and Eric Kremer scored 10 each.

Smith had eight assists in the contest and pulled down 12 rebounds. Kremer blocked two shots. L. Hardiek and Addis had six rebounds each.

Newton's Jack Chapman scored 23 points as the Eagles downed Marshall, 63-59 in Little Illini Conference action Friday.

The two teams were tied at 13-13 after the opening quarter and Marshall took a 26-24 halftime lead. Newton then had a 17-14 third quarter and finished strong as Nick Cohorst hit three of five free throws and Zach Jansen was six of six at the line in the fourth quarter. Chapman also nailed four of six and Zak Finn put in two three-pointers.

Chapman finished with six field goals that included four three-pointers and was seven of 10 at the line for his 23 points. Jansen hit two field goals and was 10 of 12 at the line for 14 points. Cohorst finished with three field goals and six of 11 at the line for 12 points.

At Louisville

Dieterich picked up a National Trail Conference win over North Clay (Louisville) Friday evening, 57-37.

The Movin' Maroons held a 19-12 opening quarter lead as Ryan Radloff knocked in two three-pointers and Callaway Campton scored six points. That lead went to 30-16 at halftime as Campton tacked on six more points.

The Maroons finished out with a 27-23 second half. Campton, a 6-foot-1 senior, tallied 23 points for the winners as he hit seven field goals and was nine of 11 from the line. Radloff scored 15.

North Clay was led by Quincy Aldrich and Reese Blank with seven points each.
