Mount Zion Advances To Title Game of Effingham Sectional

Mount Zion High School edged Decatur Eisenhower at the Class 3A Effingham Boys Basketball Sectional  Wednesday evening, 65-60.

The Braves took a 17-13 opening quarter lead, hitting three trifectas in the period. But Eisenhower came back with a 19-9 second period run to lead 32-26 at halftime.

Mount Zion came back with a 16-11 third quarter run to pull within 43-42 going into the final period.

From there the Braves's Jonah Smith hit two three-pointers and was four of four at the line for 10 points while Charles Kuhle tallied a basket and was also four of four at the free throw line for six points. Mount Zion outscored Eisenhower 23-17 for the victory.

Smith finished with 26 while Nate Ewing tallied 16.

Mount Zion moves into the title contest against Springfield Lanphier for the sectional championship at 7 p.m. Friday.
