St. Anthony Wins North Clay Regional

The St. Anthony Bulldogs knocked off the Grayville Bison 64-45 Friday night to win the championship of the North Clay Class 1A Regional Tournament in Louisville. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. 

St. Anthony got out of the gate in style, leading 22-12 after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 34-22 at halftime, then 49-33 after three quarters before outscoring Grayville 15-12 in the final quarter to post the 19-point victory.

The Bulldogs hit 52% of their shots, 24 of 46, including 3 of 11 threes. St. Anthony made 13 of 19 foul shots, committed just eight turnovers and grabbed 28 rebounds.

Grayville made 51% of their shots, 19 of 37, including 4 of 12 threes, but made just 3 of 10 free throws. The Bison turned the ball over 16 times and pulled down 17 rebounds.

Drew Gibson led the way for St. Anthony with 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting. Adam Levitt scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Alex Beesley scored six points but had nine rebounds. Levitt and Beesley each had four offensive rebounds. Also for St. Anthony: Jack Nuxoll 8, Alex Deters 5, Wyatt Lawrence 4, Cade Walsh 3, and Brandon Runge 2.

Kase Robinson led Grayville with 21 points.

The Bulldogs improved to 25-5 on the season and move on to the Nokomis Sectional. St. Anthony will square off for the third time this season against National Trail Conference foe Altamont Tuesday at 7pm. Altamont won their own regional Friday night 62-54 over Nokomis. We will have the Tuesday game on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. Another NTC member is also in the Nokomis Sectional, as the Dieterich Movin Maroons won their own regional 54-52 over the Oblong Panthers. Dieterich will play Wednesday at 7pm against Patoka, who won the Okaw Valley Regional Friday 68-66 over Central A&M. We'll have the Dieterich game, as well, on 979XFM.
