TEUTOPOLIS -- The Teutopolis Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament got underway Monday evening.

Effingham St. Anthony picked up a 55-43 victory over Altamont. The Bulldogs held a 25-23 halftime lead. The Bulldogs built a seven point lead in the third period but Altamont closed the quarter with a quick five points to cut the lead back to two. However, St. Anthony's Hoene put in 15 of 17 total points in the quarter and the Bulldogs pulled away.

Hoene connected on two three-pointers in the final period and hit nine of 11 free throws. He finished with 24 points. Dust had the Bulldogs in the running through the first three quarters, hitting six points in the first, seven in the second and eight in the third. He finished with 23 points.

Altamont was led by Teasley with 14 and Duckwitz with 11.

In the second contest, Teutopolis trailed Dieterich 26-23 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes then came back defensively in the third quarter and outscored Dieterich 12-4 to build a five point lead and then pulled away for a 54-36 victory.

Deters and Hardiek tallied 14 points each for the winners. Dieterich was led by E. Bohnhoff with 15 points.

Dieterich and Altamont will meet at 6 p.m. for third place Thursday while St. Anthony squares off against Teutopolis for the championship at 7:30 p.m.
