The Effingham Lady Hearts pushed their record to 9-1 Thursday night with a 70-59 Apollo Conference win over the Taylorville Lady Tornadoes.

Effingham got out of the gate quickly on the road, leading 22-8 after one quarter. They pushed the lead to 38-22 at halftime and were still up 50-34 after three quarters. Taylorville narrowed the gap some in the fourth quarter, outscoring Effingham 25-20, but Effingham won the game by 11.

Hearts' Coach Jeff Schafer said, "This was a crazy game. We shot 70% from two point range and 41% from three point range, and Taylorville made 13 threes. We could just not put them away."

Schafer said, "We got contributions from a lot of people. Natalie (Carie) came off the bench and really sparked us, and Miranda (Fox) had probably her best game of her young career and knocked down some key free throws at the end. Carsyn (Fearday) just missed a double-double, Shelby (Myers) played a much more consistent game for us and came up huge for us. Aly (Armstrong) knocked down some shots and I thought the kids did a great job of locating her."

Fox led the Lady Hearts with 20 points, Armstrong scored 12 points and Fearday, Myers and Carie each scored 10 points. Also for Effingham: Skyler Schafer 6, and Bria Barr 4 (totals 72 points).

Schafer said, "Overall, it was a really good win for us. We did a great job rebounding in the first half and built a nice lead. They made a lot of shots and we were still able to find a way to get it done. Now, we need to focus on Cahokia for Saturday and we can have a really good start to the first two parts of our season."
