TOLEDO -- Altamont High School opened the evening at the Cumberland Boys Basketball Turkey Tournament with a 61-44 win over Casey-Westfield.

The Indians edged out to a 13-6 opening quarter lead and then had a 23-18 second period run to lead 36-24 at halftime.

Armstrong led the way with 24 points for the Indians. Also in double figures was Barnett with 12. Six other players scored in the contest.

In the second game at the high school, Cumberland downed Neoga 48-38. Neoga held a 14-11 opening quarter lead but Cumberland came back to lead 23-20 at halftime. The Indians could only score two free throws in the third period as Cumberland pushed farther ahead 31-22.

Zach Wolke tallied 12 and Mike Wolke 11 for the winners.

Neoga was led by Ramert with 10 points.

In game one at the junior high school, Oblong handed Newton a 54-50 loss. The score was tied at 13-13 after the opening quarter. Newton then moved ahead 32-21 at halftime. Oblong rallied in the third period with a 15-3 run to edge into a 36-35 lead. In the final quarter, Oblong had an 18-15 run to hold on for the victory.

Maus led Oblong with 31 points while Goodwin added 11. Newton was led by Nick Cohorst with 15.

Dieterich captured the second contest over Charleston 68-59. The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 22-17 opening quarter and held a 33-29 halftime lead. The big quarter came in the third where the Maroons had a 13-9 lead and went on for the victory.

Four players hit double figures for the Movin' Maroons. Radloff tallied 21 while Higgs scored 15, Campton 14 and Flach 11.

The tournament lays off until Friday when Casey-Westfield faces Neoga at 3 p.m. followed by Dieterich against Oblong at 4:30,  Altamont taking on Cumberland at 6 and Newton against Charleston at 7:30.

Mulberry Grove Tournament

North Clay (Louisville) led the way with a victory at the Mulberry Grove Tournament Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals edged Ramsey 45-42. The Rams held a 10-7 opening quarter lead but North Clay came back to move ahead at halftime 21-17. Ramsey then had a 15-10 third period to move ahead 32-31 going into the final period. North Clay rallied with a 14-10 run to pull out the victory.

Repking and Walker scored 12 points each for the winners.

In the next contest, South Central fell to Patoka 71-54. Patoka held a 34-25 halftime lead then had a 20-14 third period.

South Central was led by Trevor Markley with 21 points, Logan Lotz with 11 and Ryan McCown with 10. The Cougars had 10 three-pointers, five by Markley, three by Lotz and two by Trent Geiler who scored eight.

Ini the final game of the evening, Mulberry Grove defeated Sandoval 69-52.

Tonight's games feature Sandoval against St. Elmo/Brownstown at 5:15 followed by South Central against Ramsey at 6:45. Mount Olive takes on Mulberry Grove at 8:15.
