Effingham High School played host to Mount Zion in Apollo Conference girls basketball action Thursday evening

The Hearts stepped out to an early lead, 11-2 after the opening quarter. That lead went to 24-10 at halftime. Miranda Fox scored five in the opening quarter while Marranda Steffen and Aly Armstrong scored five each in the second period.

Carsyn Fearday then took the scoring lead with six points in the third period as the Hearts had a 16-4 run and finished out with a 51-22 victory.

"This was a real solid effort for us tonight," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Our defense was really good and led to a lot of easy baskets. I thought Miranda Fox played her best high school game so far. She just did it all. Everyone pitched in. We got contributions from everyone as all 12 players recorded a rebound. We need to use this as a springboard to the final few weeks of the season."

The Hearts improve to 4-4 in the conference, 17-8 overall.
