Effingham High School moved its record to 6-3 on the season with a 40-27 victory over Taylorville Tuesday evening.

The Hearts edged out to a 6-3 opening quarter lead and led 17-12 at halftime. EHS then had a 23-15 second half lead.

Carsyn Fearday tallied 18 points for the Hearts. Shelby Myers chipped in with eight.

"Our defense was outstanding tonight," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We held them to single digits each quarter and I couldn't be more pleased with our rebounding. Aly Armstrong had nine rebounds, Shelby Myers eight and Carsyn Fearday seven. Aly also had six assists, so on a night where she doesn't score much, she really helps us win in other ways. She is playing at a very high level right now.

"Shelby Myers really came to play tonight and was a real force for us. We got good bench play and our freshman guards keep improving every game out. We got a lot of good bench play and played very consistent. This was a good win for us going into the Charleston Tournament and gets us back in the Apollo race as well."
