Neoga, Dieterich To Meet For NTC Girls Tourney Title

BEECHER CITY -- The finals have been set for the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament after three games were played Thursday evening.

In the opening contest, South Central's Abby Hahn was a scoring machine as she tallied 29 points and guided the Cougars past Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 53-45. The score was knotted at 22-22 at halftime before the Cougars edged away with a 14-11 third quarter run and outscored the Hornets 17-12 in the final period.

Hahn connected one nine field goals, six of those from three-point range, and was five of six at the line for her 29 points. Also in double figures was Keely Smith with 13.

CHBC was led by Chandler Ward with 15 points, all five field goals coming from beyond the arc.

Neoga then handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 64-35 defeat on the way to its bid for the title. Neoga wasted no time, stepping out to a 22-10 opening quarter lead.

EC Thies had a 25 point contest, connecting on 11 field goals, two from three-point range, and a free throw. Jaycie Roy chipped in with 16 points.

BSE was led by Morgan Brown with 20 points.

The final contest went to Dieterich over Effingham St. Anthony 47-39. The Bulldogs led Dieterich 12-9 after the opening quarter but Dieterich came back to lead 20-18 at halftime then had a 16-7 third period run.

Courtney Flach led the winners with 17 points while Kallee Heuerman added 10. St. Anthony was led by Megan Nuxoll with 23.

The finals Saturday feature Neoga against Dieterich at 7 p.m. for the champioinship. St. Anthony and Brownstown/St. Elmo meet for third place at 5:30. The consolation championship will feature Altamont taking on South Central at 4 p.m.
