Gonzaga Holds On To Down Pepperdine, College Scores

Malibu, CA (SportsNetwork.com) -- Kyle Wiltjer scored 24 points, Domantas Sabonis posted a double-double and No. 3 Gonzaga held on for a 78-76 victory over Pepperdine on Thursday nightWiltjer added eight rebounds and four assists, while Sabonis finished with 18 points and a personal-best 12 rebounds off the bench.

Kevin Pangos had nine points and five assists for Gonzaga (17-1, 6-0 WCC), which has won 10 straight since its only loss at Arizona on Dec. 6. Jett Raines scored a career-high 22 points and Stacy Davis had 21 for the Waves (11-6, 4-2), who came close to snapping a 26-game losing streak to the Bulldogs.


(7) Wisconsin 70, Nebraska 55

Madison, WI (SportsNetwork.com) -- Frank Kaminsky returned to the lineup from a concussion and helped No. 7 Wisconsin shake off Sunday's loss to Rutgers with a 70-55 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Kaminsky led the Badgers (16-2, 4-1 Big Ten) with 22 points and moved over 1,000 career points in the process.

Wisconsin got 13 points and seven rebounds from Nigel Hayes, and Sam Dekker and Bronson Koenig each chipped in 11. Koenig was in the starting lineup after Traevon Jackson broke his foot in Sunday's setback. Nebraska (10-7, 2-3) was led by Terran Petteway with 27 points but only seven of those came in the second half. Shavon Shields, averaging 17.1 points per game, only scored eight.


(8) Utah 76, Arizona State 59

Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) -- Delon Wright made all 12 of his free throws and finished with 21 points and six assists as No. 8 Utah dismantled Arizona State 76-59 on Thursday. Jordan Loveridge tallied 14 points and eight rebounds and Brandon Taylor scored 13 for Utah (14-2, 4-0 Pac-12), which didn't look past its matchup with the Sun Devils before Saturday's showdown with 10th- ranked Arizona.

Utah will enter that contest as the lone unbeaten team in conference play, though the Wildcats are 15-2 overall and will be in the friendly confines of McKale Center, where they've won 31 straight games. Gerry Blakes paced ASU (8-9, 0-4) with 10 points.


(10) Arizona 68, Colorado 54

Tucson, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) -- Stanley Johnson dropped a personal-best 22 points and No. 10 Arizona took care of business at McKale Center, beating Colorado 68-54 on Thursday. Johnson, who was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list on Wednesday, also contributed eight rebounds while shooting 8-for-9 from the foul line. Kaleb Tarczewski added 14 points and Elliott Pitts made four of his six 3-point attempts for 12 off the bench.

Brandon Ashley had a game-high 11 rebounds and T.J. McConnell gave eight points, seven rebounds and six assists for Arizona (15-2, 3-1 Pac-12), which has won 31 straight home games. Askia Booker was tremendous in defeat, pouring in a career-high 30 points for Colorado (9-7, 2-2), which was without its second and third leading scorers. Center Josh Scott (back spasms) and forward Xavier Johnson (sprained ankle) were both inactive. No other Buffaloes scored in double figures.

 

EIU 72, Eastern Kentucky 65

RICHMOND, Ky. -- LeTrell Viser hit a 3-pointer with 1:33 to play to give Eastern Illinois a little breathing room as the Panthers won at Eastern Kentucky for the first time since 2001 with a 72-65 win on Thursday night.

EIU has now won eight straight as they improved to 11-6 overall, 5-0 in the OVC. The Panthers will play at Morehead State on Saturday at 1 p.m. The defending OVC Champion Colonels dropped to 10-6 overall, 2-1 in the OVC. The eight straight wins ties the EIU school record for consecutive wins at the NCAA Division I level.

Viser put the Panthers up 12 points with 5:47 to play as he drained a 3-pointer which gave EIU a 62-50 lead. Viser was one of three EIU players in double figures finishing with ten points.


EIU Women 68, Eastern Kentucky 42

RICHMOND, Ky. -- Eastern Illinois closed out the first half with an 11-2 run as the Panther women won their first conference road game of the season with a 68-42 win at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday night.

EIU improved to 7-11 overall, 4-1 in the OVC.  The Panthers will play at Morehead State on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.  EKU dropped to 6-8 overall, 1-3 in the OVC.

With the scored tied 16-16 with 4:45 to play the Panthers closed the first half with an 11-2 run. Bh’rea Griffin started the run with a 3-pointer as she was 4-of-4 from 3-point range finishing with 19 points.


Morehead State 91, SIUE 63

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State connected on its first 12 attempts from the field Thursday then cruised to a 91-63 win over visiting SIUE at Johnson Arena.

"It all went wrong from the start," SIUE Head Coach Lennox Forrester said. "Our guys didn't come out and compete today. Whatever the problem is we have to fix before Saturday."

SIUE dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Morehead State improved to 7-12 overall and 2-2 in the OVC.

Despite a season-best 29 free throws by the Cougars, including 12 in the first half, the Eagles led by as many as 20 in the first half and held a 47-28 advantage at halftime.


Illinois Hosts Indiana

(Champaign, IL) -- The Fighting Illini are home on Sunday to play the Hoosiers at the State Farm Center. Illinois is 12-6 and 2-3 in the Big Ten after defeating Northwestern on Wednesday. Indiana comes in at 13-4 and 3-1 in the conference after a win over Penn State on Tuesday.
