Effingham's eighth-grade team heads to the Class 8-4A State Tournament Saturday at Rochester.

Effingham Junior High School captured its own Class 8-4A Girls Sectional basketball championship Wednesday evening.

The Mustangs handed Taylorville a 34-19 loss. Effingham took a 9-6 opening quarter lead and led 14-7 at halftime. The Mustangs finished out with a 15-4 final quarter run.

Fearday tallied 11 and Weis 10 for the winners who improve to 20-1 on the season. Effingham will compete in the Class 4A State Tournament Saturday at Rochester Junior High School. The Mustangs will face Bloomington Evans (22-0) at 11:30 a.m.

Other members of the field include Chicago Heights Washington, Edwardsville Liberty, Frankfort Summit Hill, Canton Ingersoll, Minooka and Bolingbrook Jane Addams.

Altamont's eighth-grade team heads to the Class 8-2A State Tournament Saturday at Riverton.

Class 8-2A St. Anthony Sectional

Altamont will be heading to the Class 8-2A State Tournament after downing host Effingham St. Anthony, 21-18.

Altamont improved to 22-3 on the season and will meet Winchester (24-0) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Riverton High School.

Other teams entered include Bloomington Holy Trinity, Bourbonnais St. George, Brimfield, Bismarck-Henning, Assumption Central A&M and Carthage.

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Sectional

Teutopolis picked up the championship of its own Class 8-3A sectional Wednesday evening.

T-town beat Casey-Westfield 27-18 to improve to 18-7 on the season. T-town will be in action at the Class 3A State Tournament at Germantown Hills Middle School at 10 a.m. Saturday against Eureka (20-2).

Other teams entered will be Gibson City GCMS, Watseka Glenn Raymond, Wenona Fieldcrest, Hillsboro, Williamsville and Pleasant Plains.

Class 8-1A Pana Sacred Heart Sectional

Sigel St. Michael saw its season come to a close in the 8-1A Pana Sacred Heart Sectional. The Sharpshooters fell to host Pana Sacred Heart 31-20.

Pana Sacred Heart advances with a 20-1 record to the Class 1A State Tournament.
