St. A Drops Tourney Game, T-town Picks Up Win

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony High School opened play in the Taylorville Girls Thanksgiving Holiday Basketball Tournament Thursday evening with a loss to Hillsboro, 47-31.

Hillsboro stepped out to a 14-6 opening quarter lead behind the six points of Cameron. The Hiltoppers pushed that to 25-13 at halftime and 40-26 going into the final quarter.

Hallerman led the way for the winners with 15 points. St. Anthony was led by Nuxoll with 16 points while Gardewine chipped in with nine.

In the second game, Mount Zion beat Decatur Eisenhower, 64-48.

The tournament continues tonight with two games and Saturday with eight contests. St. Anthony returns to action Saturday at 9 a.m. against Mount Zion. The Bulldogs will face Decatur Eisenhower at 3:30 p.m.

Teutopolis opened its stay at the 14th Annual Salem Wildcat Thanksgiving Tournament with a 55-39 win over Belleville East.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 16-10 opening quarter lead and led 27-19 at halftime and 41-31 going into the final quarter then had a 14-8 run.

Hardiek tallied 19 points while Repking chipped in with 10 for the Shoes. T-town will now face Carlyle at 9 a.m. Saturday and then take on Highland at 4 p.m.

Charleston clipped Altamont to the tune of 58-28. The Trojans jumped out to a 21-6 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Allyson O'Dell tallied 17 while Morgan Sherwood added 13 and Paige Swango 11 for the winners.

Altamont was led by Keidron Duckwitz with 12.

In the junior varsity contest, Charleston won 31-22.

CHBC was led in scoring by Jensyn Morrison, a senior, with nine points. Morrison also pulled down six rebounds. Chandler Ward had three steals.

Centrralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran handed Dieterich a 52-35 non-conference loss Thursday evening.

Dieterich held an 18-10 opening quarter lead but Christ Our Rock Lutheran came back to take a 31-26 lead going into halftime. Christ Our Rock Lutheran then had a 21-9 second half run.

Dieterich was led by Courtney Flach and Kalee Heuerman with 11 points each. Anna Shadle and Mallorie Vahling led in rebounding with six each. Flach had four assists. Kelsey Webb and Heuerman had three steals each. Dieterich drops to 0-2 on the season.

South Central edged North Clay (Louisville) 49-43 in action Thursday evening.

The Cardinals held a 12-9 opening quarter lead before South Central came back with a 13-7 second period run to lead 22-19 at halftime. North Clay pulled within 29-28 going into the final period then the Cougars took off with a 20-15 run.

Hahn led the winners with 18 points while Wilkins added 16 and Sigrist 10. North Clay was led by Bible with 22. South Central is now 2-0 on the season.
