Beecher City, Stew-Stras, N. Clay Advance In Boys Regionals

Beecher City, Stewardson-Strasburg and North Clay (Louisville) all claimed opening round victories as boys regionals got underway Monday evening across the state.

Class 1A Nokomis Regional

Beecher City advanced in regional competition after downing St. Elmo/Brownstown 72-56 in opening round play.

The Eagles stepped out to a 25-5 first period lead and never looked back in this one. Five players hit double figures for the winners in even scoring. Jackson Bales tallied 15 points while Brady Barnes added 14, Adam Doty and Austin Rexroad 13 each and Brandon Gardner 12. Barners pulled down 12 rebounds. Bales led in assists with four. Gardner, Doty and Barnes had two steals each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Levi Maxey with 18 points. Also in double figures were Feezel with 12 and M. Maxey with 10.

Beecher City advances with a 12-12 record to face Altamont Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg advanced by beating host Cumberland 57-48 in overtime. The Pirates took the first quarter lead 11-2.

Stew-Stras came back to pull within 20-13 at halftime then had a 16-9 third quarter run to tie the score at 29-29 going into the final quarter. Both teams then tallied 17 points sending the game into overtime. In the overtime session, the Comets took over with an 11-2 run.

Helmuth tallied 22 to lead the way while Fry added 15 and Jones 10 for the winners. Cumberland was led by Shoan with 12 and Bauguss with 10.

Stew-Stras advances to face Dieterich at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Class 1A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

North Clay (Louisville) claimed a 34-27 win over Red Hill (Bridgeport) in opening round play Monday evening.

North Clay will now face Oblong Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 1A Mulberry Grove Regional

Mulberry Grove edged Sandoval 68-64 in opening round play of its own regional Monday.

Mulberry Grove will now face Patoka at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Class 2A Robinson Regional

Marshall picked up the first game victory over Robinson, 51-46, Monday evening.

Marshall will face Casey-Westfield at 6 p.m. Wednesday followed by Teutopolis taking on Newton at 8 p.m.
