EHS Sweeps Apollo Conference Baseball DH

Effingham High School swept Mount Zion in an Apollo Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Hearts were first on the scoreboard in the opener, tallying a run in the second inning, then tacked on another run in the third.

Mount Zion came back to knot the score at 2-2 in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Evan Hamrick and a walk by Brendan Doyle.

The Hearts moved ahead with four in the bottom of the frame after Braxton Lewis singled, Kaden Koeberlein hit into a fielder's choice, Brody Boehm singled and Koeberlein stole home, eaching scoring one run.

Colton Webb earned the 7-2 win for the Hearts. He gave up five hits and two runs, one of those earned, over 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight and walking five.

Camden Raddatz finished with three singles and an RBI while Jude Traub had a double in the contest.

In the second game, Kaiden Nichols struck out 10 batters as the southpaw led the Hearts past Mount Zion, 11-6. Nichols gave up two hits and three runs over five innings while walking four.

The Hearts ripped out to a 6-0 first inning lead as Colton Webb drew a walk, scoring one run, Koeberlein also walked, scoring a run, Brody Boehm walked to score a third run and Nichols singled, scoring two runs.

They added to their early lead in the bottom of the second with two after Webb singled and Koeberlein hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Effingham extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to RBI singles by Nichols and Raddatz.

Nichols had two singles and three RBI while Raddatz had a single, double and two RBI. Webb had a single and two RBI.

In the junior varsity doubleheader, the Hearts blanked Mount Zion 4-0. EHS had six hits led by Andrew Leonard with two singles and Wade Bushur with a single and an RBI. Andrew Wagoner added an RBI.

Mount Zion turned around and blanked the Hearts 4-0 behind a nine-hit attack.

EHS had three hits led by Will Hecht with a double and Bushur and Wagoner with a single each.
