BROWNSTOWN -- South Central High School ran out to a 3-0 opening inning lead on Brownstown/St. Elmo and put the game away by a 6-1 score in baseball action Thursday.

BSE tallied a run in the third but the Cougars came back with a run in the fourth and finished out with two in the sixth.

South Central had nine hits led by Brody Markley with two doubles and an RBI, Max Magnus with a single, double and an RBI, Maddox Robb with a double and two RBI and Callaway Smith with two singles.

Coen West went six innings on the mound. He finished with 12 strikeouts and allowed only one run on four hits and no walks. Trevan Sidwell finished the final innings with two strikeouts.

Corey Hoopingarner led Brownstown/St. Elmo with a double. The Bombers dropped to 1-5 on the season and return to action Tuesday against Altamont.

At Chatham

Effingham led by a 6-0 score through four innings but ended up falling to Chatham Glenwood, 8-7 Thursday.

The Hearts got on board in the top of the second after Kaiden Nichols drew walk, scoring one run, Spencer Fox drew a walk, scoring another run, Camden Raddatz doubled scoring two runs, Colton Webb hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and an error brought home another run.

Chatham Glenwood came back with a run in the third on a homer. The Hearts retaliated with a run in the top of the fifth.

But Glenwood kept hammering away with two in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth to pull within 7-5 and then won it with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Glenwood outhit the Hearts by a 10-5 count. EHS was led by Raddatz with a double and two RBI and Brayden Verdeyen with two singles and an RBI.

Cru Erikkson had two singles, hit a home run and had three RBI for Glenwood while Krayton Reincke hit a home run and had two RBI.

At Chatham

At Cowden

Mulberry Grove came back with two runs in the sixth inning to edge Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 2-1 Thursday.

The Bobcats had taken a 1-0 lead in the fifth before Mulberry Grove tallied its runs.

CHBC had three hits in the game led by Layne Jones with a double.

At Neoga

Casey-Westfield took a 6-0 first inning lead and went on for an 11-4 victory over Neoga Thursday.

The Warriors banged out 12 hits in the contest and were aided by six Neoga errors.

Neoga finished with five hits, all singles. Trey Sheehan, Brock Lanham, Cayden Hakman and Colin Blazich had a single and an RBI each. Josiah Gentry had a single and James Ballinger an RBI.

Jake Reddicks and Brayden Rhoads led Casey-Westfield with two singles and two RBI each, Connor Sullivan had a single and double and Luke Overbeck a double and an RBI.

At Neoga

Richland County came calling and handed Newton an 11-6 loss behind a 15-hit attack.

The Tigers edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead and led 3-1 after three. Richland County then tallied four runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Newton had seven hits in the contest led by Dylan Gier with a double and two RBI, Dexter Fulton with a double and David Ferguson with two singles and an RBI.

Richland County was led by Ian Wnkler with two singles, two doubles and three RBI, Colby Redman with a single, two doubles and three RBI and Jacob Beard with a single, double and an RBI. 

At Newton

North Clay (Louisville) fell to Carmi by a 12-0 tally Thursday.

The Cardinals dropped to 3-6 on the season. They will return to action Saturday at the Freeburg Round Robin. North Clay will meet Marissa at noon and Freeburg at 2.
