T-town, WSS, North Clay, Newton Claim Baseball Victories

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School came from behind to take a 13-9 victory over Neoga in its season-opening high school baseball game Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead. But Neoga charged back in the third with a seven-run frame.

T-town tallied three in the bottom of that frame to trail 7-4 then pushed across two more runs in the fourth to trail by one.

The Shoes went on a six-run binge in the fifth inning and finished out with a run in the sixth.

Neoga outhit the Shoes by a 10-8 count but committed four errors.

Joey Niebrugge hit a home run and finished with two RBI while Brett Kreke had a triple and tallied three RBI for the Shoes. Austin Borres finished with a single, double and two RBI.

Andrew Probst picked up the win on the mound, going 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, two walks and striking out five. The Shoes are back in action Thursday at Triad High School against Bethalti Civic Memorial

Neoga was led by James Ballinger with a double and two RBI and Cayden Hakman and Colin Blazich with two singles and an RBI each.

The Indians, who dropped to 0-2, return to play Saturday at Central A&M.

At Kansas

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Blayzz Verdeyen had the pitching from Tri-County figured out as his team brought home an 18-2 victory in four innings Tuesday.

Verdeyen finished with two doubles, a home run and tallied eight RBI. The rest of the Hatchets were also on offensively as Branson Tingley finished with a single, double and three RBI, Charley Spour a single, double and two RBI, Jackson Gurgel a single, double and two RBI and Carter Verdeyen a single and double.

Gurgel went two innings to pick up the win on the mound. He allowed one run, gave up three walks and struck out five. Connor Manhart came on to throw the final two innings, allowing one run on one hit, one walk and striking out two.

Windsor/Stew-Stras ripped out to a 12-1 opening inning lead and never looked back.

The Hatchets pounded out 12 hits in the contest and were aided by five Tri-County errors.

At Newton

Newton handed Flora a 5-1 loss Tuesday. The Eagles' Max Meinhart got the win on the mound, going 5.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits, two walks while striking out eight.

The two teams went through the first four innings scoreless before the Eagles tallied two in the fifth. Flora moved within 2-1 in the top of the sixth but Newton retaliated with three in the bottom of the frame.

Dalton Baltzell led the Eagles with two singles and an RBI. David Ferguson and Payton Harris added a single and an RBI each.

Max Meinhart picked up the pitching win. He went 5.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits, two walks while striking out eight.

At Casey

North Clay (Louisville) opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Casey-Westfield Tuesday.

The Cardinals are back in action Friday at Father McGivney for a 4 p.m. contest.

 

At Robinson

Robinson and Dieterich were tied at 2-2 in the top of the sixth. But Robinson came back with two in the bottom of the frame then held off the Movin' Maroons for a 4-3 victory Tuesday.

Robinson moved ahead 2-0 in the third inning. Dieterich came back with a run in the fourth and a run in the top of the sixth to tie the score. However, Robinson tallied two more in the bottom of the sixth before Dieterich's final run in the seventh.

Both teams had two hits. Dieterich was led by Jaxon Funneman with a single and an RBI and Landen Keck with a single. Carson Baxter added an RBI.

At Shelbyville

Brownstown/St. Elmo took a 2-0 first inning lead and led 3-0 after the second inning Tuesday.

The Bombers led 3-1 until the fifth inning when Shelbyville broke loose with five runs to move ahead 6-3. BSE came back within 6-5 before the Rams went on a nine-run sixth inning to finish with a 15-5 victory.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had six hits in the contest led by Adam Atwood with a single, triple and three RBI and Josiah Maxey with a triple.

Wells atd Petska led the way for Shelbyville with a solo home run each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo dropped to 0-2 on the season and is back in action Friday against Hillsboro.
