St. Anthony Wins NTC Baseball Tourney, NC/CC Third

ALTAMONT -- Effingham St. Anthony High School finished its run in the National Trail Conference baseball season with the championship of the NTC Tourney Friday.

The Bulldogs claimed the victory by downing Altamont, 5-2.

St. Anthony's offense was on high with 10 hits while Brock Fearday threw a six-hitter. Fearday did not give up a walk and he struck out nine in keeping Altamont off the bases.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and held that until the third when they pushed across a second run. Two more runs came in the fifth and a final run in the sixth.

Brady Hatton, B. Fearday and Connor Roepke all had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs. Hatton had a single, a home run and two RBI while Roepke had two singles and an RBI and B. Fearday two singles. Aiden Lauritzen added a single and an RBI.

Also garnering singles were Max Koenig, Henry Brent and Beau Adams with one each. St. Anthony ended the season, winning the NTC regular season title and finishing with a 24-1 record.

Altamont was led by Nathan Stuemke with two singles. Kaidyn Miller and Dillan Elam added an RBI each. Ethan Robbins, Keegan Schultz, Eli Miller and Justin Magelitz had a single each.

The Indians finished the season with a 17-7 record.

North Clay/Clay City had firepower in downing South Central, 21-12 in the third place contest.

The Cardinals edged out to a 3-1 opening inning lead but trailed South Central 5-4 after two innings. North Clay/Clay City pulled ahead 8-5 in the third but here came South Central again, scoring five runs in the fourth to lead 10-8.

North Clay/Clay City then opened the flood gates with a nine-run fifth and a four-run sixth for the victory.

The Cardinals had a whopping 20 hits in the game and were aided by four South Central errors and six walks.

Carter Walden banged out a double, triple and home run to finish with five RBI. Jack Compton added three singles, a double and an RBI. while Trenton Ingram finished with two singles, a triple and four RBI. Cayden Craig chipped in with two singles and three RBI, Ayden Jones and Jesse Weidner two singles and two RBI each and Evan Clifton two singles and an RBI, Cody Zimdars added a single and an RBI. Ian Jones added a single to make all nine players with at least one hit.

Craig was the winner on the mound, going two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks.
