Shoes Advance To 2A State Baseball Tourney, St. A Loses In 1A Sectional

Teutopolis Junior High School captured the championship of its own Class 2A Baseball Sectional Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes downed Jasper County, 3-1 in seven innings. Luke Niebrugge hit a single in the sixth to score the go-ahead run.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 8-10 on the season and will head to the 2A State Tournament Friday at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

T-town will take on Pleasant Plains (25-2) at 10 a.m.

In other first round games Friday, St. Joseph (12-6) meets Staunton (14-0) at noon, Mossville (15-1) takes on Braidwood Reed-Custer (16-4-1) at 2:30 and Washington will face Sidell Salt Fork (13-1) at 4:30.

The winners advance to the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon. The losers will then square off for third place at 2:30 with the winners meeting for the state championship at 4:30.

 

Class 1A St. Anthony Sectional

St. Anthony fell victim to Paris Crestwood, 2-1 in its own sectional championship contest Saturday.

The Bullpups edged ahead 1-0 in the third inning and held that lead until the sixth when Crestwood broke loose with two runs.

St. Anthony outhit Paris Crestwood, 6-5. Jonny Gannaway had two singles and an RBI and Mason Storm had two singles.

Crestwood (11-1) had five hits and committed two errors It advances to the Class 1A State Tournament at Eastside Centre in East Peoria and will meet Pawnee (17-1) at 4 p.m.
