CHBC Wins EIC Championship, Area Baseball Roundup

GREENVILLE -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed the championship of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament at  Greenville University Saturday.

Both teams went scoreless through the first two innings. CHBC moved ahead 1-0 in the third then tacked on another run in the fourth and finished out with a four-run sixth.

BSE made a comeback bid in the top of the seventh only to fall short with two runs.

AJ Radloff, Gage Lorton, Kyle Lamb and Conner Nowitzke had a single each for the winners.

Radloff went the distance on the mound, throwing  a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Adam Atwood and Dodge Willms had the lone hits, both singles, for BSE. Willms had an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo drops to 6-12 and is back in action today at North Clay in a 4 p.m. contest.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City improved to 10-4 on the season.

At Kinmundy

South Central edged Neoga 6-5 behind a 10-hit attack Friday.

Neoga stepped out to a 3-1 opening inning lead but South Central knotted the two at 3-3 in the second. The Indians moved ahead again, this time with two runs to lead 5-3.

South Central fought back with a run in the fourth and tied the score at 5-5 in the fifth then produced the winning run in the sixth.

The Cougars banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Colton Smith with three singles and an RBI, Brody Markley with two singles and an RBI and Zane Montes and Max Magnus with a single and an RBI each.

Neoga had five hits led by Landon Titus with a single and two RBI and Colin Blazich with a single and an RBI.

South Central's Zane Montes came on the mound in the third inning to win. He went five innings, giving up two runs on three hits, one walk and striking out six.

At Kinmundy

At Neoga

Then in a Saturday contest, Neoga fell to Altamont, 9-2.

Three Altamont pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter. Eli Miller went the first two inings allowing one run on one hit, three walks and striking out three. Kade Milleville came on for the win. He threw no-hit ball through four innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Kaidyn Miller finished out the final inning allowing one run on three walks while striking out two.

Altamont was led in hitting by Keegan Schultz with a home run and two RBI, Dillan Ellam with two singles and two RBI, Kaiden Davis with a double and two RBI and Nathan Stuemke and Ethan Robbins with a double each.

Neoga's lone hit was a double by Trey Sheehan.

At Neoga

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis hosted South Central in a doubleheader Saturday and captured both victories.

In the opener, the two teams did not score through the first three innings. T-town then moved ahead 1-0 in the fourth and tacked on the second run in the fifth to blank the Cougars, 2-0.

The Wooden Shoes had three hits,. Mick Niebrugge and Brett Kreke had a single and an RBI each and Zac Niebrugge a single..

Gavin Addis went five innings on the mound allowing one walk, five hits and striking out four.

South Central finished with five hits led by Zane Montes with two singles.

In the second contest, T-town poured on the hits and runs in a 13-3 victory in six innings.

The Wooden Shoes moved into a 3-1 opening inning lead then tacked on single runs in the second and third, three runs in the fourth and fifth and finished with two in the sixth.

T-town banged out 16 hits led by Teagan Pals with two doubles, Austin Borries with three singles, Alex Kremer with two singles and two RBI, Dylan Hartman with two doubles and an RBI, Andrew Probst with a single and two RBI and Jake Kocher and Bryce Niebrugge with a single and an RBI each.

Seth Jones had a double and an RBI and Colby Bursott two singles and an RBI for the Cougars.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 17-3 for the fall while South Central went to 13-7.

T-town is back in action today hosting Dieterich while South Central will travel to Dieterich Tuesday.
