The Chicago Cubs are, at least temporarily, out of the postseason picture.

The Cubs lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-6 Thursday night. Officially, the Cubs are tied with the Miami Marlins for the third playoff spot in the National League, but Miami holds the tiebreaker.

Kyle Hendricks pitched well enough, but the bullpen and some shaky fielding led to the loss.

The Cubs have a weekend series starting this afternoon with Colorado at Wrigley Field, then head to Milwaukee and Atlanta, two of the division leaders in the National League, to wrap up the regular season.

The Milwaukee Brewers' Wade Miley and two relievers combined to shut out the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, 6-0.

Miles Mikolas took the loss for the Cardinals. Paul Goldschmidt was the lone bright spot with a double and single.

St. Louis opens a weekend series in San Diego tonight.
