BSE, CHBC Go 2-0 In EIC Tourney, St. A, Altamont Win In Baseball

Brownstown/St. Elmo and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up victories once again as the second day of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Baseball Tournament continued Tuesday.

Brownstown/St. Elmo played host to Mulberry Grove and went six innings, ending the contest by a 15-5 tally.

BSE had four two-run innings in the first, third, fourth and fifth wrapped around a six-run second and finished with a run in the sixth.

Adam Atwood provided the offense with two singles, a double and three RBI. Cade Schaub added a triple and an RBI while Lucas Powell had a double and an RBI and Calin Chandler had a single and three  RBI.

Dodge Willms went 4.2 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits, two walks and striking out five to earn the win on the mound.

BSE improved to 6-11.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City pounded Ramsey by a 21-6 count. The Bobcats scored 14 runs in the second inning and ended the contest in the fourth.

The winners had 10 hits led by Clayton Wojcik with two singles, two doubles and six RBI. Wyatt Rueff added a double, home run and four RBI. Ben Askins finished with a double and two RBI.

Carson Evans threw a five-hitter for the victory.

CHBC is now 9-4 on the season.

The tournament takes a day off before ending Thursday with games played at Greenville University. Mulberry Grove faces Ramsey at 4:15 p.m. In the championship contest, CHBC meets BSE at 7.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony was a hitting machine Tuesday in a 12-2 win over Neoga.

The Bulldogs had 16 hits that included six for extra bases. Brock Fearday had a home run and a single and finished with four RBI. Connor Roepke added a single, two doubles and two RBI. Beau Adams finished with a single, two doubles and an RBI and Samuel Link added a single, double and three RBI. Will Fearday chipped in with two singles and Aiden Lauritzen added a single and an RBI.

Neoga had four hits led by Matt Propst with a solo home run and Riley Durdel with two singles.

Lauritzen went the first 2.1 innings, allowing one hit, one walk while striking out four. Link came on to finish the 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, two walks and striking out three.

At Altamont

Altamont was outhit by South Central but the Cougars committed four errors and the Indians tallied an 8-3 victory Tuesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the top of the second before Altamont broke loose with four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Nathan Stuemke had two singles, a double and three RBI to lead the way in the hitting department. Kaidyn Miller added a solo home run while Dillan Elam had two singles and an RBI, Kaden Davis two singles and Keegan Schultz a single and an RBI.

South Central had 13 hits led by Max Magnus with two doubles and an RBI, Colton Smith two singles and a double, Hudson Moore with a single and double, Trevan Sidwell three singles, Maddox Robb two singles and Colby Bursott a single and an RBI.
