Junior high baseball regional championships are set after play Saturday.

  

Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

It will be two Effingham teams for the championship of this regional. 

Both teams showed off their power from the plate.

St. Anthony pounded Altamont by a 15-0 count in the first game.

In the second contest, Sacred Heart also had a 15-0 tally against Findlay Okaw Valley.

The two Effingham teams meet at 4 p.m. today for the regional championship.

 

Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Sigel St. Michael advanced to the title contest of its own regional by upsetting the top seed.

The Sharpshooters edged Newton St. Thomas, 7-6 and takes a fourth seed into the championship game.

In the second game, Paris Crestwood won over Mattoon St. John's, 3-2.

St. Michael and Paris Crestwood meet at 4:30 p.m. today for the championship.

 

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Dieterich blanked South Central 10-0 in the opener Saturday.

The Roadrunners tallied five in the second inning and finished the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule, 10-0.

Alex Schottman led the way for Dieterich with two singles and two RBI while Maddox Niemerg had two singles. Max Brummer and Carter Bierman had a single and an RBI each.

South Central was led by Dodson Ryker with two singles.

Ben Schottman was the winning pitcher, going two innings, allowing no runs on two hits, no walks and striking out three.

In the second contest, Teutopolis tallied a 12-0 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in five innings.

The Wooden Shoes had eight hits led by Eric Weidner with a single, double and an RBI, Luke Niebrugge with a double and two RBI, Finn Hemmen with two singles and an RBI and Jake Probst with a double and an RBI.

Kale Goeckner went five innings for the victory. He allowed four hits, three walks and struck out six.

Dieterich and Teutopolis square off at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional championship.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Jasper County was a 9-3 winner over Red HIll (Bridgeport) in the opening game Saturday.

In the second contest, Casey-Westfield edged Cumberland, 5-4.

Casey-Westfield held a 4-1 lead after three innings and tallied a final run in the sixth. Cumberland made a comeback bid in the bottom of the sixth with three runs only to fall short.

Cumberland was led by Evan Davis with a single and double, Colby Roedl with two singles and an RBI and Gatlin Murphy with a single and an RBI.

Top-seeded Jasper County will now face third-seeded Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional title.

Class 3A Effingham Regional

Effingham will be playing for its own regional championship after downing Pana 7-5 Saturday.

Pana took a 1-0 first inning lead but the Mustangs tallied four in the second. Pana added on another run in the third but Effingham scored three more to lead 7-2. Pana came back with three in the fourth but couldn't overcome those two innings for the Mustangs.

Effingham had seven hits led by Westin Hayes with a triple and three RBI, TJ Raddatz with a double and an RBI, Daegon Mooney with a double and Ian Kinkelaar and Carter Kabler with a single and an RBI each.

Carson Fox pitched a scoreless seventh to get the save.

Top-seeded Effingham improved its record to 16-2 and moved into today's championship against Taylorville at 4 p.m.

Taylorville was a 7-2 winner over Greenville in the second game Saturday.
