The Chicago Cubs reacquired Jeimer Candelario on Monday.

The Cubs will be sending Kevin Made and DJ Herz back to the Washington Nationals for Candelario.

The Cubs traded Candelario to the Tigers six years ago. He has hit 16 home runs for Washington this year and has a .258 average with a .342 on-base percentage. He has played third base and also been the designated hitter.

Candelario will be playing some first base, third base and be a designated hitter for the Cubs. He is expected to make his debut with the Cubs today in a series with the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch tonight against Cincinnati will be at 7:05 p.m.

In another deal Monday, the Kansas City Royals traded Jose Cuas, a right-handed pitcher, to the Cubs in exchange for Nelson Velazquez, an outfielder.

Cuas made 45 appearances for the Royals, all but one out of the bullpen.

The Brewers and the Reds are also expected to be buyers today while the St. Louis Cardinals are expected to remain active sellers before the 5 p.m. trade deadline.

Jack Flaherty, Dylan Carlson and Paul DeJong all have trade rumors swirling around them. Others could also be dealt although John Mozeliak did say that Nolen Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt would not be traded as the corner infielders are players the team is retooling around.

The Cardinals will host Minnesota today at 6:45 p.m.
