Effingham St. Anthony handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 4-1 loss in the Class 1A Brownstown/St. Elmo Baseball Regional Wednesday.

The two teams went scoreless through the first three innings before the Bulldogs broke loose with a two-run fourth.

The Bobcats came back within 2-1 in the fifth but St. Anthony tallied two more runs in the sixth for the victory margin.

Connor Roepke knocked out a home run and drove in two while Ryan Schmidt had a double. Brock Jansen had a single and an RBI and Will Hoene had an RBI.

Jansen went six innings for the win, allowing one run on four hits, three walks while striking out seven.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by AJ Radloff, Wyatt Rueff, Jacob Doty and Blake Mueller with a single each. Clayton Wojcik had an RBI.

Today's game features Altamont against Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4:30 p.m.

St. Anthony advanced to the championship game Saturday at 10 a.m. while the winner of today's game will also advance to the title contest.

Class 1A South Central Regional

Dieterich pulled out a 4-3 victory over North Clay/Clay City in the first game Wednesday at the South Central Regional.

The Cardinals took a 2-0 opening inning lead and held that lead into the fourth. Dieterich tallied a single run in the third, then broke loose with three runs to move ahead 4-2 in the top of the fourth. North Clay/Clay City came back with a single run in the fifth but it wasn't enough.

Dieterich had three hits in the contest and were aided by six North Clay errors.

Garrett Niebrugge, Noah Dill and Andrew Hall had a single each for the Maroons. Niebrugge drove in two runs.

Niebrugge was also the winner on the mound, going six innings, allowing three runs on four hits, three walks and striking out three.

The Cardinals were led by Ayden Jones with a single, double and an RBI and Logan Fleener with two singles and an RBI. Carder Walden added an RBI.

In the second contest,  South Central blanked Red Hill (Bridgeport), 6-0.

The Cougars took a 1-0 first inning lead then had a three-run second and scored single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Anthony Buonaura went five innings, allowing one run, three walks and striking out six for the win. Aiden Dodson came on to finish out the last two innings,allowing no runs, no hits, no walks and striking out three.

Buonaura aided his own cause with two singles and drove in two runs. Ethan Watwood had a single and an RBI while Zane Montes had an RBI.

Dieterich and South Central will now meet for the regional championship Saturday at 11 a.m.

 Class 1A Tuscola Regional

Windsor/StewardsonStrasburg advanced to the championship game of the Tuscola Regional by blanking Tuscola, 10-0 in five innings Wednesday.

The Hatchets stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead then had a six-run fourth.

Jackson Gurgel threw a three-hitter over four innings, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out six.

WSS banged out 11 hits in the contest led by Tyler Wetherell with two singles, a triple and two RBI, Kendall Morris with a double and two RBI, Carter Chaney with a double and an RBI, Connor Manhart had two singles and drove in three runs, Gurgel two singles and Jordan Wittenberg a single and two  RBI.

In the second contest of the day, Arcola downed Macon Meridian, 3-1.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will now square off against Arcola at 11 a.m. Saturday for the championship of the regional.

Class 1A Neoga Regional

Casey-Westfield was a winner over Bethany Okaw Valley by an 8-2 count in Wednesday action at the Neoga Regional.

Today's contest will feature Neoga against Cumberland at 4:30 p.m.

Casey-Westfield advances to the championship Saturday to face either Cumberland or Neoga at 11 a.m.

 

Class 2A Greenville Regional

Teutopolis blanked Flora 3-0 to advance in the Greenville Regional Wednesday.

Neither team scored through the first three innings. The Hatchets then broke loose with a three-run fourth.

The Wooden Shoes' Garrett Gadds threw a one-hitter with two walks while striking out 11.

T-town had three hits led by Brett Kreke with a double and an RBI, Caleb Siemer with a single and two RBI and Bennett Thompson with a single.

Flora ended the season with a 23-13 record while T-town improved to 16-15.

In today's contest, Salem and Greenville will meet at 4:30 p.m.

T-town advances to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. and will face either Salem or Greenville.
