EHS Nabs Win Over T-town, Baseball Roundup

TEUTOPOLIS -- The game opened with a 1-1 tie in the first inning before Effingham scored across four more innings to down Teutopolis by a 12-4 count in high school baseball competition Monday.

Two doubles scored a run in the first for the Hearts. Kaden Koeberlein got the first two-baser with one out. With two outs, Camden Raddatz doubled home Koeberlein.

The Wooden Shoes came back with a run in the bottom of the frame. Logan Roepke reached base on an error. The Hearts had two outs on strikeouts before Joey Nierbrugge also reached on an error and Roepke scored.

Both teams went up and down in order in the second. The Hearts then tallied two runs to move ahead 3-1 in the third. Kaden Nichols drew a walk and Spencer Fox singled. With two runners on, Koeberlein was hit by a pitch. John Harper then hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and Fox stole home for the second run and the Hearts held a 3-1 lead.

T-town went up and down in the second and third before putting a runner on in the fourth only to leave him stranded.

Meanwhile, the Hearts came back with three runs in the top of the fifth to move ahead 6-1. Fox and Koeberlein had a single each. Harper had a fly ball that scored Fox before a two-run homer by Quest Hull.

The Wooden Shoes scored three in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Caleb Bloemer drew a walk and Bennett Thompson followed with a single. Roepke had a single and Evan Waldhoff singled. When the dust cleared, the Shoes had pulled within 6-4.

The Hearts came right back with four runs in the sixth and finished out with two in the seventh. The Shoes scored a final run in the sixth.

EHS had 13 hits in the contest led by Hull with a single, home run and four RBI, Fox with three singles and an RBI, Koeberlein with a single and double, Colton Webb with two singles and John Harper with a single and two RBI.

T-town was led by Waldhoff with a single and two RBI and Roepke with a single and an RBI.

McDevitt took the win on the mound, going four innings, allowing one run on no hits, one walk while striking out 11.

At Mahomet

Mahomet-Seymour took a 2-0 opening inning lead and went on for an 8-4 victory over Effingham St. Anthony Monday.

St. Anthony came back to knot the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth then led 3-2 in the top of the fifth and 4-2 in the top of the sixth.

But Mahomet-Seymour tallied six runs in the bottom of the sixth. The homestanders had 10 hits in the game while holding St. Anthony to five.

Leading St. Anthony was Aiden Lauritzen who hit a home run and had two RBI against a Mahomet-Seymour pitcher who is being scouted. Brock Jansen added a single, double and an RBI while Beau Adams had a double.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo/s Kyle Behl had a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Bombers pulled out a 7-6 win over Cumberland Monday.

The Pirates outhit BSE by a 10-5 count.

Cumberland led 2-0 after the opening inning but BSE came back to pull ahead 3-2 in the third. Cumberland regained the lead with two in the fourth and one in the fifth. BSE tied the score at 5-5 in the sixth.

The Pirates then moved ahead 6-5 in the top of the ninth before Brownstown/St. Elmo won on Behl's homer.

BSE's five hits were all singles by five different players. Behl had the winning RBI and Adam Atwod and Wyatt Forbes had an RBI each. BSE improved to 2-3 on the season and is back in action today at Atlamont.

Cumberland was led by Ross McBride with three singles, Sawyer Keyser with two singles, Ty Bradley with a single and double and Grant Keyser with a double.

Adam Atwood had the win on the mound, going only a third of an inning, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and striking out one.

At Newton

South Central and Newton went through the first four innings without a score before the Cougars broke loose with three runs in the top of the fifth.

Newton pulled within 3-2 in the sixth before South Central tallied five runs in the seventh for an 8-2 win.

The Cougars had five hits led by Anthony Buonaura with a single, double and an RBI and Aiden Dodson and Andrew Magnus with a single and an RBI each.

Dodson was the winner on the mound, going five innings, allowing no runs on one hit, three walks while striking out 10. Buonaura went the final two innings allowing two runs on one hit, one walk and striking out four.

Newton had only two hits, singles by Isaac Flowers with an RBI and Carder Reich.

At Cowden

Vandalia came calling and downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City by a 19-1 count in five innings Monday.

The Vandals edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then had a six-run second, a two-run third and an nine-run fifth behind 14 hits.

CHBC had three hits led by Wyatt Rueff with a double. AJ Radloff had an RBI.

At Cowden

At Flora

Flora took a 2-0 first inning lead then held off Dieterich for a 5-3 win Monday.

Dieterich pulled within 2-1 in the second but Flora tallied another run in the third. Dieterich then tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the fifth. But the Wolves came right back with two in the bottom of the frame for the victory.

Dieterich outhit Flora by an 8-6 count. The Movin' Maroons were led by Andrew Hall with two singles and an RBI, Lucas Westendorf with two singles, Mason Lidy with a double and an RBI and Carson Baxter with a single and an RBI.
